Agricultural cooperatives in Picardy are grouping together to valorise biomass.

22 Picardie cooperatives gave birth to the Coopénergie® Picardie cooperative union in order to develop biomass supply chains in line with the needs of industrialists and communities in the region.

At a time when biomass is making a name for itself through biofuels, wood energy or agro-materials, 22 co-ops in Picardy are meeting around the Coopénergie® Picardie Cooperative Union. Created under the impetus of the Regional Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives (FRCA) of Picardy, this Union of cooperatives has a dual objective: to create economic and sustainable biomass sectors and to be a technical tool at the service of these sectors.
Coopénergie wants to make the link between farmers and industrialists or communities wishing to embark on a biomass project. The union will ensure on the one hand to guarantee farmers a fair and consistent remuneration and on the other hand to ensure a viable and sustainable supply to end customers. For this purpose, Coopénergie will be responsible for organizing the management and distribution of biomass with the aim of developing local projects. Coopénergie will therefore be responsible for drawing up resource plans for the various projects, contracting biomass volumes on behalf of its member cooperatives and monitoring the various calls for tenders in the region.
