While some figures are specific to Lower Normandy, most of the information is "extensible" to the whole of France.
Products intended to fight against the considered harmful organisms are used in large quantities in different areas: firstly agriculture, but also the road (maintenance of roads and railways), wood processing and various private or public uses (gardening, green spaces, local treatment ...).
The European market is the second largest market. France is the largest consumer of the European union of pesticides and the third largest after the USA and Japan.
For many years, observational campaigns of environmental quality have shown the presence of certain pesticides and their degradation products in soil and in the water and it is only recently that studies have shown the presence of pesticides in rainwater and consequently in the air we breathe.
