Portable solar panels, cheap, able to recharge computers and mobile phones have been designed to Queensland University of Technology (QUT).
The mini solar panels consist of flexible composite films 100 nm thick polymer mixtures of compounds / carbon nanotubes deposited on a conductive glass substrate. Compared to silicon photovoltaic cells whose efficiency is about 23%, that these new panels is low since it does not exceed 4%.
However, these solar panels have many advantages: they can be made cheaply and are very light (about 10 mcg / cm2). The panels could be assembled or disassembled easily, coiled and transported according to the specific needs of the user.
