Manufacture of the evaporator for water injection

Realization of the evaporator or bubbler of a doping with water

This page is part of the dossier ofhelp to carry out a Gillier Pantone water doping

The following description refers to this plan:

1) The bubbler is a corrosion resistant metal box with a capacity of a few liters. It is generally built of metal because it is easier to weld pipes and plugs, but plastic is also good, as long as it withstands a certain depression and slight heat without deforming.

2) The water level must be between 150 and 200mm, a constant level being the ideal, the height above the level should be 100mm and more depending on the space available. This is to prevent splashing liquid water that could go back into the reactor. If the space is too small, provide a good deflector system and even a fine mesh in the duct that goes to the reactor.

3) The bubbler should be closest to the reactor for a short duct and it is recommended to isolate heat to avoid condensation.

4) The section of conduit and approximately the same section as the inner tube of the reactor.

5) The bubbler of the dip tube is pierced with small holes or saw grooves.

6) The section of this tube is the same as that which connects the reactor. The total section of the holes must be equal to or greater than the section of the dip tube. You can put an air filter on the inlet of this tube to prevent dirt from entering the bubbler (which is not necessarily cleanable if not removable).

7) In operation, the bubbler is in depression at least of the value of the water level according to the law: p = 1000 * 9.18 * h. With h = water height of the bubbler in m and p the depression in pascal.

8) The bubbler is completely sealed there is no vent like a tank. The only air entering the bubbler is that which is drawn through the dip tube.

9) A bubbler heating circuit is necessary because of the cooling caused by forced evaporation, this heating must be between 85 ° C and 90 ° C. It can be done by diverting the engine coolant or oil circuit (or possibly but less effective: by the exhaust gases).

An alternative solution to the bubbler and interesting for road vehicle with low thermal inertia and high speed variations is the steam generator.
