World energy consumption recorded explosive growth. Some countries, particularly in Asia, are experiencing a dramatic economic development is accompanied by an increase in energy consumption (as China is expected to surpass Europe in 2010).
The current energy saving policies are motivated by the exhaustion of certain resources, economic and geopolitical considerations and the desire to preserve the environment. Indeed, the intensive use of fossil fuels has led to a scarcity of exploitable resources today, while burning them pollutes the air and produces greenhouse gases. Moreover, the economies of many countries is weakened by them vis-à-vis exporters of oil and gas dependency.
However, the energy savings can be envisaged in economically developed countries. Today 2 billion people do not have access to electricity.
Alternative energy (geothermal, wind, solar, ocean, etc.) they can substitute heavily on fossil fuels? What areas are available to save energy? What might the impact of energy saving policies?
