The Minister of Energy of the Northern Land of Rhineland - Westpahlie, Axel
Horstmann and his counterpart at the Ministry of the Environment, Mrs Barbel Hohn, at the "E-world" energy fair in Essen, gave their green light to the creation of a network of the fuels of the future.
"The network of competence should help to reduce the long-term dependence of the German transport sector on petroleum (it is currently 97%)," Horstmann said. It will also introduce new fuels and develop new engines.
"The development of bioenergy will also create new jobs," Hohn added. "We expect 2020 to cover up to 25% of fuel consumption in Germany by biofuels. This represents an annual output of 11 million tons of fuel and a cultivation area of the order of 3,5 million hectares of oilseed rape. This would represent a potential of 175.000 jobs, mostly in the agricultural sector.
