Iran crisis: Divergences powers

Even though the permanent members of the UN Security Council condemn Iran's declaration of enriching uranium, they have yet to come to an agreement on the approach to be taken towards the Islamic Republic.

The five permanent Council members (China, United States, France, Great Britain, Russia) and Germany decided to discuss the issue on April 18 in Moscow, in a meeting that was already scheduled .

The United States, through Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, believes it is time for the Security Council to take "strong action" against Iran. For his part, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said sanctions were "certainly a conceivable option".
