The site Kyot home récement has published an article about the health consequences of urban pollution on mortality.

The numbers are scary, here are some selected pieces:

"Air pollution is a disaster for public health even more than for climate. "

"We learn that in an urban population of 15 259 590 inhabitants of 76 agglomerations of France in 2002, 9513 deaths are attributable to pollution by fine particles. This represents 4,9% of the total mortality of this same population that year! "

« La France a elle seule verrait 31 700 morts de la pollution de l’air par an dont 17 600 (56%) imputables au seul traffic routier !! »

An "interesting" comparison between pollution and road accident is, moreover, made by the author of this article:
