The site Kyot home récement has published an article about the health consequences of urban pollution on mortality.
The numbers are scary, here are some selected pieces:
"Air pollution is a disaster for public health even more than for climate. "
"It is learned that on an urban population of 15 259 590 76 inhabitants of cities in France in 2002, 9513 deaths would be attributable to pollution from fine particles. This represents 4,9% of the total mortality of the same population that year! "
"France alone would 31 700 deaths from air pollution per year, including 17 600 (56%) attributable to road traffic alone !! "
An "interesting" comparison between pollution and road accident is additionally performed by the author of this article:
"Exhaust gases from cars, motorcycles and trucks kill 2,4 times more than road accidents !! The real obituary stock of the road rises to 17 600 + = 7242 24 842 deaths per year !!! We would very much like the numbers of road safety compent ALL victims ... "
