Hello,
Broad topic, but how big ho:
Whenever I work on my diesel car dinosaur, I tell myself anyway on an electric car there should be less waste ...
I speak of motor oil, antifreeze, thermostat to be replaced; candles (petrol car), air filter, used hoses, catalytic converter, radiator replacement, air filter, oil filter, timing belt, it makes waste for disposal ...
But the electric car ... what are its waste?
There's ... that's for sure
It may be time to make a comparison chart
PS There is no fault in the title?

For or against the electric car? ... Not easy to position.
On the bottom it is certain that we must find a solution to this consumer of oil gluttons who rejects an unacceptable pollution. Electric cars currently appears to be the only solution almost consistent.
That said, the economic problems and pollution issues are not yet well defined.
Certainly the success of the oil comes from a lobby that managed to make it a pillar of current global economies. These lobbies are they also monopolize electricity ... it is likely and there will still and always abuses and inconsistencies.
Furthermore, if the electric car does not pollute when it works, which generates pollution manufacture and especially recycling?
In particular batteries. It is said that the future of batteries is lithium, or there is little in nature and its operations is surely polluting. So hard to say whether the electric car will replace the gasoline car! Does it not go in the coming years to realize that the electric car will produce a different but equally serious pollution.
For example, I heard recently a recycling specialist declare currently saving bulbs were very polluting because we have not yet thought about their restatements and they contain harmful substances! ...
To rule on the electric car should learn about the different stages of commissioning:
- Materials needed in particular pollutants
- The treatment of consumables (batteries)
- Life and recycling of this type of vehicle
etc ...

This subject will do some duplicate at least 2 other subject:

But making a comparative summary table can be a good specific idea about it.

I think the real good question is ... for or against any short car!
For electric or diesel, this car gives us individual freedom and power ..... SO addictive!
Anyway, I am under no illusion as to the answer to most of us.
MODE HS: [Off]

why so much has changed
Distribution couroie: a good engine must be a lateral cam shaft and rocker: no change has couroie
Antifreeze: a good engine must not have leakage and keep the same long liquid
air filter: filters a bath oil is proven: just change the oil: no need to change the cartridge: alas there is that old thing is that these good filter, now all the world disposable cartridges ...
Catalytic converters: the also not necessarily a good solution: ca degrade performance and is consuming more, for a result that I cast doubt
Hose used a good quality hose is eternal: if this shit must be changed, but in an electric car if some piece of electrical son are crap it will also change
notices a crappy hose is a water leak, an electrical cable insulation has crappy fires! is not better
candle: when a petrol engine carbide well just to bring the electrode to as a measure of wear and a candle can last a very long time

Hello chatelot16
The lateral camshaft rocker + is the technology before yesterday, it's been that we have shown that head camshaft provides a much better performance in mid regime. And the belt is not obliged to Mercedes where they mégotent less than some other manufacturers, and it seems that all the models have a chain to drive the camshaft and do are all the better.
In my experience, save on candles that leads to better fuel overconsumption in some cases can be very important (like + 20%). At worst it leaves you stranded at the roadside. Suffice to say that it is anti econological.

For an electric car, say a 106, what is it like to interview:
- Delivery of water batteries every 4000kms it seems
- Changing the motor brushes (all 50000km?)
- The batteries are cooled by liquid it seems to me may also be changing the battery coolant.
This is for an electric 106 a design over 10 years!
With the current techno should be able to do without battery maintenance and replacement of brushes (brushless motors instead of DC motor)
Add to that wheel motors and a more universal joints that wear out or break bellows.
For a petrol engine:
- Drain
- Oil Filter
- air filter
- timing belt
- Accessory belt
- water pump
- Fuel Filter
- Muffler
- Brake pads and discs (also present on EVs, but wear out much more slowly through regenerative braking)
All these parts are sold on a huge margin, and I do not think that manufacturers would be happy to do without this business.
The oil jalopy is great for oil, but also for manufacturers, users are captive for refueling and maintenance.
If manufacturers have no interest, why would develop electric vehicles?
And with the tremendous inertia of the system: changing attitudes, training mechanics to electrical (already a PB for hybrids, there are fatal tension in this stuff, you have to condemn electrically before make an intervention).
In short, I do not think we will see Mr. everyone with an electric jalopy soon

Oh no, I put my veto! A good engine must have a pinion cascade distribution! Rockers show their limits RPM fast enough ...
Very rare I grant you but it exists: 750 88 of the VFR (I think) to 97 (I'm) are equipped. There are also some car engine but I reminded me that.
Height from 2002 ca was removed on VFR (VTEC variable valve system).
My VFR consumes 1994 5 5.5 to L / 100km and this with good old carbs, same as a modern bike packed electronics, lighter, and power and on the same course ...
My ex was a diversion channel.
But this does not prevent having to valve clearance... Besides, I do not even know if it is still necessary to do the new cars ...
