Nuclear power plants do not produce enough

by recyclinage » 02/11/09, 09:45

This winter, France should be a net importer of electricity for ten weeks, possibly forcing the market manager, Réseau de Transport d'Electricité (RTE) to offload, that is to say voluntarily cut the power here or there to restore balance to the network. This situation of potential shortage, announced Friday by RTE, results from several factors, starting with a
"Very clear withdrawal" from the availability of the nuclear fleet compared to last winter. At the time, France had already broken with its traditionally exporter of electricity for a few days. This deterioration in the country's electric autonomy results from the increased maintenance needs of our fleet of nuclear power plants. It is in this context that the State of Maryland has just given EDF the green light to buy back half of the nuclear assets of the American Constellation. This file was defended by the outgoing president, Pierre Gadonneix, but it is today contested by his designated successor, Henri Proglio, who fears a financial dispersion of the group.

After advertising all-electric, here is that EDF is the second victim (the first is customers of course)
It will be funny when all those who have opted for this all-electric (heating, hob) will be relieved.
Add to that the EPR which is not up to safety level.
The French will perhaps realize that all-electric-nuclear is an aberration, finally, we can always dream.
And we are not yet running on electricity, the future is bright!

We have to put this in context, EDF and AREVA want to relaunch the nuke. They need to say that they are essential, unavoidable and that they must be given the means (by funding new tranches and other EPRs) ... to avoid the inconvenience of cuts / load shedding.

What is the share of bluff? Normally maintenance stops are scheduled well in advance and not preferably during the period of greatest consumption. Given the number of power stations in operation, I find it hard to believe that maintenance outages, which could affect some, have a notable influence on the whole ... unless it is precisely synchronized to raise the pressure on government or public opinion. : Mrgreen:

In any case I do not know if it is related but in preparing an article on the carbon tax I wondered why the production of elec had stopped increasing in 2005 ( http://www.iea.org/stats/pdf_graphs/FRELEC.pdf )

It doesn't seem to be the case in other countries. Maybe you provide an explanation (decrease in export).

Without wishing to enter too much into the debate, if there is one day cuts / load shedding or tariff increases resulting from the insufficient production of nuclear electricity in France, the inevitable consequence in public opinion will be: "It's because of privatization"

+1

According to EDF, 18 of the 58 French nuclear reactors are shut down for maintenance operations, incidents or to recharge them. Funny management before winter. EDF explains that the outages have been delayed due to a strike strike that took place in the spring.

Morality: we must quickly outsource the maintenance of our nuclear power plants to foreign companies, nationality to be defined but preferably where the right to strike is not widely used ...

The strike in nuclear power plants, a way out of nuclear power?

To argue.
