Scrapping bonus: the device is extended

by recyclinage » 23/10/09, 10:34

Buyers of a new car will be able to benefit from the scrapping bonus today, if their order is placed before December 31, even if they only pay in 2010.

Good news for car manufacturers but also for buyers. The payment of the scrapping bonus of 1.000 euros provided for vehicles delivered in 2009 will be extended to those purchased until December 31, even if delivery will take place in 2010, announces the Minister of Industry, Christian Estrosi, in This Friday's Parisian.

Christian Estrosi had indicated in mid-October that the government was studying this measure in favor of the automobile sector, very affected by the economic crisis.

"Customers who order a vehicle before December 31, 2009 will be able to benefit from the premium of 1.000 euros even if delivery is not made until the first quarter of 2010," said the Minister of Industry to the Parisian. A detail that matters. Until now, you had to be invoiced and delivered before the end of the year to benefit from the 1 euros scrapping bonus. Otherwise, the buyer could only receive the reduced premium to 000 euros, applicable from January 700, which cooled many consumers.

And to add: “From now on, it is therefore the order date and not the invoice date which is valid to benefit from the premium. We wanted this change, first so that it benefits consumers, then to further amortize the reduction in the amount of the premium to manufacturers ”.

He also recalled that the premium would drop to 700 euros in the first half of 2010 and 500 euros in the second. From 2011, "we will return to the previous situation with a bonus amounting to 300 euros", he added.

According to him, 400.000 vehicles have already benefited from the scrappage bonus today and "we should reach 500.000 by the end of the year".

Christian Estrosi also believes that the super ecological bonus will also constitute a strong incentive, "higher than the scrapping premium, since buyers of clean vehicles emitting less than 60 g of CO2 per kilometer will be able to benefit from a bonus of 5.000 euros" .

Believing that this bonus had saved French manufacturers, he said he expected in return "very strong solidarity with subcontractors since they are the most affected by the crisis".

The Federation of Vehicle Equipment Industries (Fiev) said in mid-October that it expects a decline in activity of 20 to 25% in 2009, after having started the year with production falls from near 50%.

This decline should translate, according to her, by a drop in staff this year included "in a range between 7 and 10%" of 107.000 employees in the sector.
