Eco-friendly mini bonus for 2010 cars

by recyclinage » 30/09/09, 09:18

According to France Info, the government is preparing to announce the introduction of a more restrictive ecological bonus. Many vehicles between 95 g and 100 g of CO2 per km today subsidized will no longer be.

Introduced at the end of 2007, the ecological bonus was aimed at encouraging consumers to buy vehicles with fewer CO2 emitters. It was expected that each year, the bonus would be more restrictive per tranche of carbon emission of the vehicle. In 2009, no reduction measures were taken, but that will change to 2010.

Many fewer vehicles involved in the bonus

First measure, according to France Info: the limit to obtain a bonus or to get a penalty would be lowered by five grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer. In other words, instead of starting 160 g, the malus would now start at 155 g. The bonus of 1000 euros, granted until now to the purchase of cars emitting less than 100 g CO2, would henceforth be reserved for vehicles emitting less than 95 g. This last measure is the most restrictive. In recent years, car manufacturers have been competing to produce cleaner city cars (Seat Ibiza, Peugeot 207, etc.), emitting between 96 and 99 g of carbon dioxide per kilometer. They will not be affected by this bonus 1000 euros, but by the lower bonus.

A system that has not been proven

While the bonus-malus system should not cost the state, France Info says it cost 600 million euros per year. In question, the forecast calculations: the bonus was provided according to the sales of vehicles before the application of the ecological bonus. However, the green bonus has indeed changed the behavior of vehicles: sales of cars with high CO2 emissions have dropped by more than 50%. Consequence: the penalty of these big cars, which had to finance the bonus of the cars more respectful of the environment, was not enough.
