by Christophe » 04/06/09, 09:56

Tonight on France 2 23h05, a very interesting document (I watched on the RTBF1 2 days ago) to better understand this distant country which is now more mentioned in our stores than in our history books!

CHINA, THE CAPITALIST REVOLUTION Docu. - History

Date: 04 / 06 / 2009
Schedule: 23H05 - 00H40
Duration: 94 mn

At the death of Mao, in 1976, China is on the verge of chaos. Deng Xiaoping succeeds him and undertakes to convert China to capitalism. He wants to develop the economy and catch up with Western countries. It begins to decollectivize agricultural land and creates free zones to attract foreign investment, opening China to the consumer society. These areas attract many peasants who hope to find a better life. In May 1989, the massacre of Tian'anmen Square puts an end to the reformist wishes of the citizens who wished to make their opinion heard. The state takes over the situation and continues the reforms as it sees fit.
