An interesting article on the origin of food products (or not) thanks to their bar code, EMB code or sanitary stamp .... about ... beers!

http://www.happybeertime.com/blog/2014/ ... s-reperer/

The author has thus identified a dozen abusive appellations such as Marseille beer brewed in the Czech Republic or Basque beer in fact Alsatian ...

What is Montebourg doing? : Mrgreen:

When there is no "IGP" (protected geographical indication), an appellation (eg: "Basque beer") is a trade name, or a brand ...

Few products have an IGP.

For example, the Hungarians "recovered" the "Tokay", which was before, also, an Alsatian wine. Since this European regulation, the use of the name of this region is reserved for the region of origin ...

Finally, the indicated labeling owes nothing on the origin of the "ingredients": this identifies the final "assembly" workshop ... So a sausage "FR-67-210-XXX" has indeed been suacisonnée in Alsace . But the pork can be Romanian!
