The effects of climate change on human health are already being felt
The Federal Ministry of the Environment (BMU) has decided to support the "climate change adaptation school" of the Charité University Clinic in Berlin. The latter seeks, through additional training, to educate doctors and nurses on the health effects of climate change. As Jürgen Becker, State Secretary at the BMU said, "The consequences of climate change on human health are already being felt today and will continue to increase. This necessarily requires adaptation measures of the public health system to preventively reduce the health consequences of climate change ".
Climate change is already having many direct and indirect effects on human health. Often consequences of extreme climatic events, such as heat waves or a significant dissemination of animal and plant species considered to be carriers of infectious diseases or cause of allergies, these upheavals represent new challenges for the health sector. La Charité, by launching the school for adaptation to climate change, becomes a leader in the sector. This initiative is part of the adaptation action plan decided almost a year ago by the federal government, which is part of the "German Adaptation Strategy" [1] to deal with the impacts of change climate.
To finance this public health project, the Federal Ministry of the Environment invests around 122.000 euros.
