Snow: economic costs of road blocking

by Christophe » 27/12/10, 22:57

The Federation of Carriers of Wallonia has estimated 100 € million the cost of blocking 60h Walloon highways.

The calculation is simple: 30 000 trucks blocked * 60 h * 55 € / h = 100 M € and this figure is a minimum.

The ban on truck traffic of more than 7,5 tonnes on the Walloon road network has currently cost 100 million euros to Belgian carriers, according to the spokesperson of the Royal Belgian Federation of Carriers and Service Providers. logistics services (Febetra), Isabelle De Maegt.

Febetra has calculated the costs generated by the Walloon Region's ban on movement of 17, 19, 20, 23 and 24 last December. According to the federation, half of the 60 000 Belgian trucks were immobilized.

"There was a total of 60 hours of driving ban and per hour of immobilization, it takes 55,5 euros", explains Isabelle De Maegt. "The total cost therefore reaches 99,9 million euros". The spokesperson points out that these are only the costs generated by the hours of immobilization: wages and fixed costs of the vehicle.

"Damage to vehicles and loads is not included. It is also only the transport of goods on behalf of a third party. Therefore, for example, costs for companies running their own vehicles are not included. trucks ".

Such winter conditions are unpredictable but measures can be prepared, estimates Febetra. The Walloon authorities reportedly misdirected.

"There was also a lot of snow in the previous winter. At the same time, we were sitting around the table with the Flemish authorities and signing a winter protocol by which we would have been clearly informed of the situation", added the spokesperson.

These costs therefore only concern the turnover of carriers: not those of their customers. For example here, the fruits and vegetables rays are beginning to empty seriously!

Personally, we expect a delivery from a supplier from 1 week!

Another example heard just now: thousands of L of milk are thrown away because of "blocked" dairy trucks ....

In short, the overall bill will be heavy ... as much in France as in Belgium.

Do not maintain the roads is therefore an economic hostage ...

So, politicians, why not take a very small “maintenance of the road network” part on the fuel taxes ... including snow removal equipment?

Because many municipalities will have trouble paying their bills ... and winter is just beginning!

It will always be more useful than paying interest on public debts ...

There is a report on the subject of FR13 2h cold cost.

And a debate on RLT TVI on the pitiful state of Walloon roads: even some redone in the year did not hold.

I would be a Belgian politician, I would do road civil engineering works by foreign companies who know how to make a sustainable bitumen because I have the impression that there is big foutage mouth in the air on the part some Walloon road companies ... but necessarily it perpetuates their business ... : Evil: : Evil: : Evil:

In short, instead of taking oil, I think we will be entitled to a new tax or "snow" tax ... : Evil:

Here are some figures on the price of snow removal / salting roads: https://www.econologie.com/forums/cout-du-sa ... 12324.html

Per capita it remains quite low per year (a few tens of euros)
