Cold wave and electric heating: EDF kneeling?

by Christophe » 06/01/09, 10:47

Cold wave: Atomic France
saved by ... antinuclear Germany

The nuclear option in the face of global warming is not only
dangerous, it is also perfectly inefficient

From this Saturday, a strong cold wave is announced on the
France, with negative temperatures over a large part of the
territory. On this occasion, the absurdity of the nuclear option
French will once again be demonstrated: indeed, well
committed to a nuclear exit plan, it is Germany that
will supply a good part of the electric heaters of
the hexagon.

The explanation is simple: to "justify" their nuclear policy,
EDF and the French State have installed millions of
electric heaters. Whenever the temperature drops, the
consumption due to electric heaters is such that despite 58
reactors, the French nuclear fleet is far exceeded: these are
then thermal power plants (gas, fuel, coal), French and
foreigners, mainly German, who are commissioned to
heating up "electric France".

The fact is that nuclear power plants are not adapted at all
to power variations, they provide power
constant ... regardless of the demand for electricity. Like EDF
continues to promote electric heating, we note the use of
more and more important to thermal power plants. Moreover, in his
Information Report No. 357 of June 2007, the Senate notes that "the
France, to ensure its security of supply, must consolidate
its advanced means. Indeed, the production park has
overcapacity in base allowing electricity exports but
seems insufficient to ensure the tip ".

Result, as recently recognized by the RTE (Transport Network of
Electricity) and Ademe (Environment and Master's Degree Agency)
of energy), the use of electric heating leads to strong
co2 emissions which, even if they take place in Germany, should
to be attributed to France and even to French nuclear power.

These data effectively disqualify the "common sense" answer that is given to us.
sometimes done, ie ... increase the number of reactors
nuclear weapons: this would not answer the problem of consumption
peak. Anyway, it would be technically dangerous and
financially suicidal for EDF to use nuclear reactors
only to cover consumption peaks, and leave them to
stop the rest of the time. This is the France well disabled, facing
strong temperature drops, with its 58 nuclear reactors
unable to power millions of electric heaters.

In fact, since 5 years, Germany is the net exporter
electricity supply to France (*), and not the reverse as claimed
those who, out of ignorance or bad faith, claim that Germany
would come out of the nuclear ... by importing nuclear electricity
French. Certainly the issue of the fight against global warming
climate change remains intact, but it is important to understand that
nuclear "solution" is not only dangerous, it is also
totally ineffective and even worsens the situation.

Once again, the "Sortir du nuclear" Network recalls that the
only future option is to save energy and develop
massively renewables. Only in this way
will be possible to save the planet from global warming ... and from
atomic danger.

Remarks (which I transmitted to the author):

a) The article forgets to specify that the "massive" development of heat pumps in recent years may have something to do with it ... Worse: Ademe continues to promote them (obviously ...). A heat pump sold as if "clean and renewable" as a replacement for an oil boiler will explode electricity consumption! https://www.econologie.com/pompes-a-chal ... -3534.html

b) Given the low installed capacity (in comparison with the 58 reactors), it is quite normal that the French thermal power plants can not follow ...

c) At least in comparison with the heat wave, the power stations can turn around because they are well cooled :)

Hello

Very realistic article but does not evoke solutions.

Without appearing fundamentalist, I would say that the simplest would be to limit the available power per household.
This measure would force consumers to monitor the electrical power permanently, to have an additional heating supplement.
Moreover, are new homes not systematically built with a chimney?

About air-to-air heat pumps, they are equipped with an external evaporator defrosting system. I will be curious to know its average power absorbed at this moment.

Yes looping the lack of solutions ECONOLOGICALLY viable it's typical of anti-nuclear ...

They offer the "Neither CO2 nor nuclear" = http://ninucleaire-nieffetdeserre.org/ not much besides debates ...? Finally have to start somewhere ...

Otherwise we have just beaten a new consumption record on the RTE !! And the 3 GW of emergency (gas, fuel oil ...) are working "full" at the moment ...

I'm going to get the FR2 JT video.

For the limitation of the power, it is a little already the case with the subscriptions according to the maximum amperage not?

It is 19h and it is -11 ° C at home ... finally in the garden!

We will probably spend -15 ° C tonight! It is gregounet who will be happy: he has his winter!

Bonsoir

For the limitation of the power, it is a little already the case with the subscriptions according to the maximum amperage not?

This is partly true, but whoever has an 6 Kw subscription is at least one 2 risk of overloading the network than someone who has an 12 KW.
I'm close to wagering that some are heating their pool right now.
In the case of an emergency like this, would it not be more logical to limit individual consumption to the strict minimum necessary?
Rather than setting up thermal power stations as a backup, would not it be more useful to distribute fuel used directly in homes?

1) Uh heat your swimming pool: apart from Edf employees (the "productivity bonus", it still exists right?) I don't see who could afford to do it ... with electricity!

2) Toutafé for fuel but will put oil in a convector : Mrgreen: and then it would be unacceptable in a capitalist deontology !!

3) I would be curious to know the responsibility of the heat pumps in this saturation of the network (cos phi, cos phi ...)

The network Ecowatt who advises not to turn his dishwasher or worst of ... CUTTING his light between 17 and 20h is a nice joke not to save energy but to make the network reliable ...Image

I do not know if Quebecers who read this must smile or laugh?
Before yesterday in western Canada -32 with wind factor this gives around -40

Yesterday -9 it's mild temperatures to go drag the kids

A good example of EdF's wood tongue: https://www.econologie.com/panne-edf-et- ... -4016.html : Evil: : Evil: : Evil:

But say that it is because you continue to PROMOTE the direct electric heating and the heat pump (complicity of the Ademe) that the production capacity of EdF reaches its limits!

It hurts so much to admit that you make sustainable development above all the sustainability of the annuity of your shareholders than for the environment and future generations? You would not be the only ones ...

But no, Christophe. You did not understand anything. Thanks to super-EPR, EDF will soon master the situation perfectly. Image

Ah so much for me ... Super EPR that has already 2 years late on the planing is what you think?

EdF ingested 2000 years have apparently no longer the level of those of the 70 years ...

For the wishes: similarly dear targoule! We have a subject here: https://www.econologie.com/forums/bonne-anne ... t6800.html

You may have noticed that I still have not made the news for wishes ... and for good reason: I have my slap to wish the hypocrite: happiness (= consumption), success (= consumption) and prosperity ( in consumption) ...

Invert the values and quickly !!
