A Russian fleet of mini nuclear power plants

by freddau » 14/04/08, 14:48

Rosenergoatom, the Russian federal atomic energy agency, will "build a flotilla of seven floating nuclear power plants in ten years in a public-private partnership", report the Izvestia. Individually, a floating nuclear power plant costs 11 billion rubles [about 300 million euros] for four years of construction. Its nuclear reactor provides a power of 70 megawatts. "Its operating life in a context of energy deficit in coastal regions is estimated at 36-40 years", notes the Moscow newspaper.

The first floating nuclear power plant will fill the energy deficit in the Arkhangelsk region. In addition, agreements have been concluded between Rosenergoatom and the authorities of Chukotka and Kamchatka for the construction of five units to supply cities with insufficient energy supplies. Finally, Rosenergoatom plans to build a seventh floating power plant in reserve. According to officials from the Russian agency, export requests are coming from countries in Southeast Asia, South America and coastal African countries.

If they were magnetic compression plants, it would still be nicer ...

Well the oceans keep warming and the fish mutating;)

The advantage is that you can throw the waste directly in the trash! :) uh I meant the sea;)

The Russians do not control their power plants on earth, so they want to embark them .... beautiful floating mine .....: Shock: : Evil: in addition they speak of exporting this shit ... and to drop "incognito" all the annoying radioactive materials in international waters ... too cool, no control, no regulation but happiness ..... :frown: hoping it remains a joke .......

70 megawatts is small, right? 9 makes around 100.000 CV, the power of a novena of TGV!

no, of course it's less powerful than an aircraft carrier, but it's just enough to power a few (big) villages, right?
a reactor from home, it is still 1100 to 1350 megawatts.
This power domain is that of a TGV (steam gas turbine) from Alstom.
