The economy and geopolitics through energy - Nicolas Meilhan -

An interesting presentation of Nicolas Meilhan and the relationship between oil and the economy, oil and geopolitics, and energetic reasons for Middle Eastern conflicts:

The relationship between terrorism and interested interventionism is worth the detour.

Yes, it is an interesting part, but the one where it establishes a direct link between oil and military intervention in Iraq is less convincing. We must not forget that the USA produces oil (in decline) and dollars: this last production is exclusive and to maintain it, they have the most powerful army of the globe.

I had already mentioned the fact that, with dollars, the US can get all the oil they want, without invading anyone. But that a monetary project is shaking the dollar, that they can not stand it, and it was a project of Saddam to launch a currency to pay for oil deliveries, just like Gaddafi who wanted to establish a pan-African currency ...
The peak of Hubbert does not apply to dollars, but this system is a colossus with clay feet that would collapse (and with it the American nation) if it were seriously challenged or simply discredited (in both senses of the word).
This obviously does not invalidate the importance of energy ...

Yes indeed, this is one reason (among others) of the invasion of Iraq.
It should also be noted that the Bush administration wanted to put pressure on China via oil reserves, an indirect lever to counter its development, the situation has however largely changed with the current "crisis" of overproduction.
The documentary is interesting in the fact that it emphasizes in a non-hypocritical way the collusions between conflict and energy, rather than pouring into the droitdel'hommisme primary (war to restore "democracy"!).
Also note the remark on end of slavery (type of black slave) for reasons of profits rather than for humanistic reasons.

I have noted this passage on the abolition of slavery: it is the same mechanism that explains the end of the colonial era in favor (it is the case to say so!) Of neocolonialism.

We could add (non-exhaustive list!) The development of feminism (the access to consumption of 50% of the population is a good deal!)), The right to abortion (1975 is shortly after the crash of 1973 and the law on indebtedness Pompidou-Giscard from 1974) ...
Note that in its times of recession the question of euthanasia is more and more in the spotlight ... then ethical issue or humanist front to future societal changes of economic origin?
