Hello everybody
I plan to use a wood boiler as a floor heating system
I am looking for some arguments for my wife because she wants to use electricity.
I'm not sure what to say other than ecology.
Impossible to calculate the gain, because it is very difficult to know how many kilowatts we will consume !!!
Do you know a way to calculate this?
Thanks for your help
Differences between electric heating and others (price)

Electricity is roughly 3 times more expensive than wood with equivalent energy ...
This should "convince" your wife ... obviously on the investment side, the advantage is electricity!
But electricity will be a good complement to a main wood heating ...

You say "But electricity will be a good complement to a main heating with wood ..."
What do you mean? electric underfloor heating + wood stove?
Or something else?
Thank you
I thought an electrical complement in a bathroom for example ...

False!
100% electric heating is the worst solution econologically speaking ... (except in Quebec or in other places where the majority of electricity is renewable ... which is not the case in France ...)
In France, the only people who think the opposite are promoters promotelec and EDF employees ...
As I said above: the only advantage of electric heating is its flexibility for occasional use (bathroom heated well only when used ...)

the original question was apart from ecological reasons ... so it's not "wrong"
if you subscribe to a green electricity supplier ... it's even more wrong!
it should not be forgotten that the purchase, maintenance, depreciation is far from negligible (higher than the heating consumption in a RT2012 house)
Obviously if its heating needs are important there it is false econologically speaking! You need a very well insulated house close to a passive house.
PS: I don't work at edf nor promotelec !!

no matter the energy consumed, the price per electric KWh is always much higher than the price of wood to make the same KWh
and for the future there is still wood growing in France, and its price will go up less than the more technical energies
only advantage of electricity, the low price of simple toaster-type radiators, which favors electricity when you only look at the price of the installation
but if you want underfloor heating you need a water circuit and a boiler, so why not a wood boiler
especially not to install a resistance heating in the ground, impossible to use with another energy
with a real underfloor heating with water everything is allowed, wood boiler, heat pump, and even electric boiler if one day it became the best solution, which in my opinion is not about to happen

Hello,
maybe if Eric999 told us a little more about his house (new ?, surface, level of insulation), we could give him more precise answers.
Why does your wife want electric heating ...?
you want a wood log boiler? pellet? for hot water too?
There are also heat pumps with CO2, very efficient and quite eco-friendly, not more expensive, and made in France !!
