Reason is the madness of the strongest. The reason for the less strong it is madness.

I have a vague memory of having heard about it in the news, some pictures and even having put a word of mention on econology about the Gulf of Mexico.
China has suffered a great deal of dramatic suffering in silence:
Who heard of the second deadliest earthquake of all time in 1976:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1976_Tangshan_earthquake
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%A9ism ... 0_Tangshan
with a number of deaths not at all precise to a factor of 3!
In 1976, 1977, we hardly talked about it, mao silence, and I only knew it in the 90s, frightened.
The worst is that of 1556 about which little is said:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1556_Shaanxi_earthquake
Of all the disasters, the worst are the diseases:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_na ... arthquakes
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ea ... s_in_China
Finally the worst seems to be the floods of 1930:

most western sources place the death toll from the floods at an estimate between 3.7 and 4 million people.

For oil pollution, on the original doc, they said that there had been very few deaths, not like the events you relate 200000 died here 200000 died there .
