Hello everybody
I'm busy pantomizing a 1000cc petrol corsa.
For the reactor, I removed the exhaust manifold and the calal pot. which was vertical under the collector.
I remade a piece which includes both.
The reactor is therefore vertical just at the outlet of the engine.
To heat, it's impossible to do better.

for arc welding I recommend 1.6 mm stainless steel rods even on normal steel.
it's easier for novices of the bow.
remember to tilt the electrode 30 degrees from the vertical and pull your cord.
the distance from the electrode is good when the noise is harmonious.
the speed of advance of the electrode depends on the perforation or not.
from 30 to 50 Amperes per mm of electrode.

the ideal is of course the MIG or semi-automatic station

Good work
