Running a 4-Stroke Petrol Engine on Nat Gas

by Sunflower » 30/04/08, 09:16

This has been bothering me for some time ... I want to get into natural gas cogeneration. Indeed considering the price of gas as much to recover the mechanical power that it can provide, rather than stupidly to burn it.
So I got a 4 stroke gasoline generator, 3,5 CV and 1,2 KVA generator.
The aim of the game is to pass the exhaust gases through the exchanger of my existing gas boiler and recover the calories, as extra.
The first question which arises, is of course: is it possible to run this engine on gas and with what modifications in terms of carburetion ?, are the pressure or the GDF network flow sufficient?
I open the debate ...

Hello,
In the US there are kits to convert small and large 4T engines to propane:

http://www.propane-generators.com/a-c_kits.htm#1919%20kit%20prices

http://www.gotpropane.com/p1.html

http://www.propanecarbs.com/

With the terms "propane" and "kit" on google, you will find many other sites ...

Greetings.

Excellent, it's true that I had based my research only on natural gas. Thanks for the tip!

in the same genre, there are GAS kits for gasoline mowers, direct from Briggs & Stratton like a small bottle ;-)

Hi guys ! in fact it comes down to making a GPL conversion that works with CNG. But I was planning to do the same thing with a diesel, we call it DUALFUEL. in fact the combustion takes place better because the pilot diesel injection offers better ignition than that offered by the spark plug of the petrol engine.
The LPG did not always work perfectly, while the DUALFUEL engines which more reliable, I think. DUALFUEL ORGANIZATION and ECI Conversion offer conversion KITS for large powers.

We must be able to do it even as an amateur, they just use a tap on the air intake to make the air / gas mixture which enters through the intake valve. then you have to reduce the injection of diesel and adjust everything so as not to pollute too much. In the kits sold by these companies there is a lot of electronics and regulation, but the gas intake technology is super simple! I have been looking for a diesel generator on EBAY for a while!
