Mixoil of Ecogras: recycling of frying oil and fuel oil

by Christophe » 23/04/08, 11:17

Here is an extract (I don't have the continuation) of a press clipping dating fromOctober 2003 that I found in my "papers" (well in my mess what :D...) I have highlighted the more interesting passages.

Frying oils and fuel oil, a validated association.

This fuel provides high boiler efficiency, limits fouling and reduces pollutant emissions.

Nancy's agro-industrial platform, Prabil, a university research organization, validated this spring the thermal recycling of used French fries oils: the Mixoil from the company Ecogras.

With technical assistance from Dalkia, the fuel was adapted to an oil-fired boiler. A pretreatment of the oil was necessary to improve its "pumpability" it was filtered to remove particles liable to clog the prefilter or damage the burner pump, 3 kg of particles were removed from 5000L of crude oil.

Measuring the viscosity of the oil as a function of the temperature made it possible to choose the preheating temperature of the filtered oil. Oil / fuel mixtures are stable over time if they are stored above 40 ° C. Below there is a risk of partial crystallization. The burner has also been modified to adapt to bio-fuel: mounting of oil resistant seals, sealing of the connections redone with a high temperature sealant, addition of a heater between the pump and the spray nozzles in the fireplace.

The article dates from the end of 2003, almost 5 years after this experiment, what about the Mixoil?

otherwise there is Dosoil:

otherwise, as everyone knows, "30% without modification" : Cheesy:

personally I will avoid in fuel for a reason: the smell. Indeed I drive with frying oil in my cars (50% one and 30% the other)
and of course it smells of frying (oil filtered up to 1 micron of course) and my oil even before filtering is very clean because my restaurateur is a good one who does not use his oil thoroughly.

and to avoid any problem with my neighbors I will avoid this kind of thing, even if I heat myself with wood. Of course the chimney can be quite high but there will always be a hint ...

well the dosoil provided for solenoid valve on car must work very well also on solenoid valve boiler! -)

as for the odor, I prefer a thousand times the smell of frying than that of red fuel ugh!
I take this opportunity to talk about the system developed by Capt Maloche which improves the efficiency of a burner by reducing the unburnt, and therefore the smell!

it is a question of setting the burner.

Yes but whatever ... my main question is: where is this project? It is quite rare for manufacturers to take an interest in "direct recycling" of oil, ie without transformation.

I associate myself with Christophe by asking myself why we are not more interested in recycling frying oils as part of a supplement to diesel? For the smell there must be solutions

At 10% the odor must be very weak ...
And then the fuel oil also has a smell ...

Hello,

The boiler burners can be modified to incorporate a very substantial part of the oil, even 100% with multi-fuel burners.

We installed one in the Roule Ma Frite room and it worked all winter.

With what performances and rejections?
