Advice for small wind turbine

by darwenn » 03/12/09, 05:01

Hello, after self-construction tests which have not been successful, I am considering the purchase of a small wind turbine of between 60 and 200 or 300 watts in addition to my 100w solar panel and which will mainly work in the fall. I hesitate between two models.

I do not opt for the Air X 400, too noisy for my taste and also too expensive.

For a budget of 300 to 500 euros there are models and I hesitate, that advise me compared to the performance / price and especially between small wind turbines Tri blades and 5 or 6 blades which is what will suit me best by average winds from 30 to 40km.

350 Euros: The little Rutland, does it work well? 60w max is enough for me.

In the same concept as the air X 400 with regulation system and protection Strong wind brake
350 euros, flex 200

Thank you for your advice

Hello Darwin,

I don't know if you had already seen it, P. Starck's wind turbine which should be out soon:

uh, sorry Christophe, I was not aware. For aumicron, it's not too much what I'm looking for as a wind turbine in fact, neither for the size nor for the price, but thanks for the info it can be useful.

So voila, I finally found the wind turbine I needed. Many followed without doubt my setbacks in self-construction. Bad propeller, bad generator, bad wind bad situation etc ... and there .. I think we should do a POST on it, for people like me who would like to install a wind turbine, but are in the center of a village ( I mean village, so with clear surroundings). I finally remedied my problems. The solution ? a small wind turbine 400w 6 blades. And the best is that I paid for it new, 1 year warranty for 500 euros (a promo, there it came back to 600 euros). 6 blades integrated regulator, electronic brake and plan to connect a stop switch.

I put the links, I think it is not a dead link, otherwise contact me in PM I will give you the address of the shop.

It turns wonderfully, my batteries charge well, but it takes a wind of 20 to 30 mini, no miracle, I will not produce every day, but whatever, in autumn winter I always have a lot of wind in the north of france, for the rest of the spring, my 100w solar panel will ensure the shortage.

A 6 blade makes it easier to start in weak wind, and no need to put a 1kw wind turbine when there is not enough wind to start or run it, I saw smaller and I did well.

In any case, I am delighted, I can finally charge my batteries when I have no sun and there is wind. Delighted to have finally achieved the result I was looking for after 6 months of traveling.

Hi Darwenn

Glad you found a product that suits you
Despite everything, can you confirm this extremely optimistic power curve for a 1 meter diameter wind turbine?

100W at 10 Km / h, I ask to see

It is difficult for me to answer you, already because I just installed it and not being in a super favorable context my winds are not constant, so I can only measure gusts.

100w with a wind of 10kmh it will surprise me very much anyway, very very even, well not at home anyway.

I do not yet have an anemometer but I will get it soon (a weather station) and make me average measurements. That said, I will not trust this measurement curve too much, I think that these curves are made on a bench or in a wind tunnel but not in real conditions, or in a super favorable context, but this is not my case. So I can't tell you much, not for the moment anyway (and I still have to change my cable to 6mm2)

The wind turbine turns very quickly (and without noise) even when the wind drops well, the cogging is zero which allows it to gain momentum easily and quickly, but I can not make any measurement at the moment.

Too bad it does not exist in 24V because this model would suit me too.

I do not know if it exists in 24v, you can always contact the store and ask the question. It seems that at the reseller who sold it on ebay, it is always 499 euros on their website. It sells the 12v model but the 24 may exist.
