Construction of a wind turbine with a car alternator

Who has ever built a wind turbine with a car alternator and its charge controller? I fully intend to try, but I do not know if I should directly mount the alternator on the axis of the wind turbine (bike wheel with blades !!!), or if I should create a gear reduction so that the alternator runs faster? Has anyone ever experienced such an installation?
