An enzyme that cleans the soil by Taisei Corp

by Christophe » 15/09/08, 19:59

Soil remediation with an enzyme, information found in an old email, unknown source:

A team of researchers from the Japanese company Taisei Corporation has developed biotechnology to purify soils contaminated with chemicals. During a test carried out by the company, 100 kg of soil containing four times the maximum concentration of dioxin authorized was placed in a container and mixed with the cleaning enzyme.

Dioxin returned to legal level within an hour. According to scientists, this enzyme is able to overcome many toxic chemicals such as polychlorinated biphenyls. This process will be marketed and should be available before the end of 2006. It will be invoiced around 700 euros per tonne of soil treated.

The son of one of my former teachers had done a thesis on the treatment of polluted soil with bacteria.
I no longer remember the cost but it was not as high.

If I remember correctly, the process studied was developed by the University of Liège.
