Straw filter for greywater for the garden

by PIERROTVAR » 09/07/09, 16:09

I had seen a report on a guy who filtered his gray water from the kitchen to water his garden and I wanted to get started.
I recovered an electric cumulus of 50 liters which went to the trash, I opened it and put a filter at the bottom.
Stuffed with straw (she filters the dirt from the kitchen) I changed the direction of the dirty water before sewage (without the toilet of course) to my filter and for 15 days I have already seen the results.
I water part of my garden to see if it works compared to the rest.
I also use biodegradable dishwashing liquid to help.
I have been going through the bathroom since this week to increase watering.

Uh hi, yes we are interested, you can put as many photos as you want on this subject ...

Question: the straw being biodegradable, you have to change it every how long? Wouldn't using a mineral (sand, gravel) be more interesting?

It will be easier than answering mail by mail. (I deleted your email to prevent it from being spam)

gray waters

Hello, yes I’m also interested, same question of straw and I would also like to know if it took you time and if it’s hard to freeze your gray waters from the cumulus?

thanks anyway, this thing is really good :)

The straw is changed only twice a year.
the water coming out seems very clean and the garden does not complain ... to follow.
the hardest part was to find a small cumulus (50 liters) that went in the trash and cut the top with a grinder, then at the bottom there is a pipe through which the hot water flows, just put a filter "mosquito net" style to prevent the straw strands from descending and clogging. as the level is high enough, there will always be water at the bottom even during holidays to prevent the bacteria which will develop to eat the impurities from dying.

I have never seen such a large straw filter !! : Shock:

How do you store water?

"Normally" it is necessary to filter gray water with a straw filter and with a pond / filter of aquatic plants (which is very beautiful) before storing the water.

See you

STRAW FILTER

by PIERROTVAR » 17/07/09, 19:29

I do not store the water it flows directly into the garden via a drip. I water part of the garden only to see the effect of the gray water from the straw filter and see if I can upgrade to larger with bathroom water for the rest of the garden

gray water

Hello, so you have a drip to water the garden but if you want to water the garden in the evening, for example suddenly it is not so possible ... unless I did not understand everything :)

STRAW FILTER

by PIERROTVAR » 24/07/09, 12:06

I water the permanence and I put a stop valve just below the outlet of my cumulus so that I can close and save the liters of water to water in the evening if I want.
Yesterday I connected the shower and the bathroom sink!
The garden revives and mint grows everywhere around the drip nozzles.
Next step planting a riverside reed to see it has enough water to grow

ah ok, with a stop valve it's cool like that indeed you can store your water!
I said that because it is better to water in the evening with the heat :)
otherwise, in winter do you have any idea how to use your water?
