Seahorses in Aquarium in Mariès, Museum of Fishing

by Christophe » 01/10/09, 17:23

I saw my 1st seahorses alive in my life I think last week at the museum of artisanal fishing in Etaples, it was really well done as a museum (just the right size, beautiful explanations and layout).

Here is a little video I made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgus72cWqdI

We do not see very well but they move their 3 main fins independently (dorsal, port side and starboard head). It's super fun actually! It looks like they are flying ... and are constantly fighting gravity!

Curious species that puts us in our place on the diversity of terrestrial evolution ... (you can guess the rest of my thought I imagine ...)

Here they are monogamous! Crazy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bD9yEZMayik

And the "live" delivery (of a dad): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaoLxR9FTwk (turn off the sound, it doesn't matter)

The Museum website: http://www.mareis.fr/

ps: we almost talked about water doping on trawls ... : Cheesy:
