DDoS attacks on the server?

by Christophe » 27/11/06, 18:35

Message from my host ... after a 40 minute downtime between 17 and 18 p.m. ....
Dear Customer,

Your server is apparently the victim of DDOS attacks from,
possibly, from people who do not wish you good
site.

Sincerely,

No worries for YOU (as a visitor) no risk ... This attack aims to weaken server resources ...

I quote :

Denial of service attacks are a scourge that can affect any corporate server or any individual connected to the Internet. The aim of such an attack is not to recover or alter data, but damaging the reputation of companies with a presence on the internet and possibly damaging their operation if their activity is based on an information system.

(...)

When a denial of service is caused by several machines, one then speaks of a “distributed denial of service” (noted DDOS for Distributed Denial of Service).

Where do you think these attacks come from? : Mrgreen: : Mrgreen: : Mrgreen:

no that's not it, if he is a fairly well-known host, he may experience attacks from time to time and a bit at random.

Because that is often why it happens.
But it is for specific sites like a political party, an industrialist, an access provider ... etc.
It is mostly for a matter of opinion or revenge.
