No tobacco, cigarettes, with all the paper and filters they contain are much more harmful than tobacco, which is a medicinal plant.
Incidentally, the scientific community is not as unanimous as that, a good number of scientists have risen for years against certain scientifically biased publications, in particular on passive smoking:

Not that I am for smoking, nor that I consider that the massive use of cigarettes is harmless, but I think that there is a paranoia and an exaggeration on this subject.
