Dangerous pollution and numerous diseases in Fos-sur-Mer

by izentrop » 17/11/17, 09:11

Cancers, asthma, diabetes, autoimmune diseases ... In Fos-sur-Mer, near Marseille, an abnormal number of diseases affects the inhabitants. The cause could well be the enormous pollution of this industrial region.

a group of scientists and citizens created the Eco Citoyen Institute. In 2011, they launched their own air quality measurements. Result: "air is 80% ultrafine particles, relates Philippe Chamaret, chemist and director of the Institute, and the chemical composition of air pollutants is extremely complex ".

The finer the particles, the easier they penetrate the body's barriers.

Factory smoke is already filtered. Is it possible to filter them even more?

In any case, the standards for measuring air pollution are obsolete. There is an urgent need to remedy this. https://www.franceinter.fr/emissions/l- ... embre-2017

There was recently a TV report in which doctors, including several occupational doctors if I remember correctly, were trying to alert the health authorities to an abnormally high number (highlighted by statistics and cross-checking of files) serious and fatal pathologies affecting many employees in this industrial area.
But for the moment nothing seems recognized or official ...

No doubt that the economic stakes of this region weigh much more than the "few" illnesses and deaths that it produces? ...

Probably yes...

Generally speaking * this has always been the case ...Economy comes before human life, then how to hope that it can pass after the environment (and environment and human life are linked ... the proof ...)? : Mrgreen:

* there are some exceptions ... which confirm the rule ...

I do not think so, because it was first necessary to highlight the pollutants, this is what was done by this institute, to determine those responsible so that measures could be put in place.

The continuation in secret of yesterday https://www.franceinter.fr/emissions/se ... embre-2017
Found since 2010. It takes too long to evolve the recommendations. What laxity!

Yes and no: we can observe an abnormally high number of pathologies limited to a geographic area, an industry or a profession without knowing precisely the origin. It is the role of certain public health organizations to work on figures and to alert.

I was speaking in a general way ... it happens that we "monetize" human life (and more than we think ... it is enough to know some spreadsheets of insurance companies :D)

I would always have in mind an old interview with a former high-ranking ex of the tests murmured which affirmed that it was necessary to protect the pilots better from the radiations than the soldiers "base" ... because the former had much more value. ..economic value, I think he even put forward the figure of 2 million francs per pilot ...

And today we are making sexist controversies for a misplaced look ...

What an evolution of the world!

I do not know if it is a big money problem, but it is a public health problem which we have known the reason for at least 7 years, the solutions should have been sought earlier.
In the docu we talk about strengthening pollution measures and alerts, but the question of filtering pollution at source can they do more than the filtering imposed by European directives, mystery?

What is interesting is that the articles are systematically accompanied by photos of the steel factory (which gives off red and white fumes which have the most beautiful effect on the photos), but these fumes are only iron oxide and water vapor.

The gases released by the nearby refineries are colorless but probably much more dangerous ...

You're absolutely right, but illustrate this with photos of an invisible gas! :D
