In 2017, the sale of electric vehicles increased by 13% in France

By Eva Gomez, the 11 January 2018

On Tuesday 9 January, the National Association for the Development of Electric Mobility released its monthly barometer of the electric vehicle market. The opportunity to take stock of the 2017 year - where almost 31.000 electric vehicles have been registered - and establish prospects for 2018.

30.921 electric vehicles have been registered in 2017, representing an increase of 13% over the 2016 year, says the National Association for the Development of Electric Mobility (Avere) in its barometer published this Tuesday January 9. This increase is nevertheless less important than that of 26%, recorded between 2015 and 2016. "The electrical market is a little more than 1,2% of new vehicle registrations in 2017," says Avere.

Renault dominates the market with Zoe

The market for the private electric vehicle recorded an increase of 14% compared to 2016, ie 25.983 new registrations. It is "constantly growing since its launch," says the association. Also note that among the new registrations, 1.073 include a "range extender". The Renault Zoe remains at the top of the sales ranking of private electric vehicles, with 15.245 additional registrations. The Zoe's sales are also growing, with 34% increase in registrations compared to 2016. This is explained by the fact that this model "2016 since the end offers a range of 400 kilometers, much higher than what currently offer other vehicles in the same category," says the Avere. Then comes, far behind, the Nissan Leaf with 2.381 registrations in 2017 (ie a decrease of 38% compared to 2016), the BMW i3 with 1.954 registrations (+ 45%), the Smart ForTwo (938 registrations against 26 in 2016) , the Peugeot Ion (874 registrations, a decrease of 27%) and the Tesla Model S (862 registrations, ie + 9%).

The sale of electric utility vehicles is also in a positive dynamic in 2017: + 8% sales with the addition of 6.011 vehicles. Here too, the Renault manufacturer dominates the market with its Renault Kangoo (2.546 units, + 7%), followed by the Zoé (675 registrations, + 67%). Then comes the Peugeot Partner (660 vehicles, + 50%).

Finally, the market for the plug-in hybrid vehicle exploded according to this barometer: + 67% compared to 2016 with 10.803 additional registered registrations. This dynamic is due to "many new models marketed," says the Avere. Mercedes dominates this market in 2017 with the registration of 2.112 GLC. Next is the Volkswagen Golf GTE, which records 871 additional registrations (-17%) and the BMW 225 xe (762 units, + 53%). "For the whole year 2017, the market of the rechargeable hybrid car represents 0,51% of the registrations of new vehicles in France, against 0,32% in 2016", indicates the barometer.

Regulatory evolution in 2018

According to the Avere, the year 2018 "looks promising": indeed, the association highlights the expected arrival of many new models. "The diversity of supply should allow the different markets to maintain and prosper in 2018". Nevertheless, state support for the development of the electric car market is essential for its development, says the association. The latter fears the possible "negative effects of the elimination of the ecological bonus for rechargeable hybrids and the reduction of the conversion premium for 100% electric vehicles". Avere therefore believes that "the market will have to be carefully monitored in 2018, to determine whether the support provided by the government is adapted to the issues of global warming and pollution that we know."

[VIDEO] 35 firefighters, 5 hours of intervention ... What happens when a Tesla catches fire

the 10 February 2018 Novethic

In Austria, a Tesla Model S caught fire after an accident. The 35 firefighters on the spot put 5 hours before extinguishing the fire, huge clouds of toxic smoke escaping from the car. Electric vehicles go out differently from the thermals, the battery too hot can reignite the fire at any time.

Image

It took 35 firefighters and 5 hours to put out the fire. In October, in Austria, a man of 19 years driving an electric car, a Tesla Model S, crashed against a highway barrier. The driver got out of the car with superficial injuries. But the firefighters had to intervene, for several hours, to overcome the fire.

Huge amounts of water

To extinguish an electric car, fire fighters need specific training. The images, shot by the intervention team, reveal impressive smoke clouds. All firefighters also had to wear masks to avoid inhalation of toxic products and used large amounts of water to extinguish the fire.

"If the high-voltage battery catches fire, is exposed to high heat, bent, twisted, cracked or broken in any way, use large amounts of water to cool it," advises manufacturer Tesla in a guide for firefighters.

The battery can restart the fire

After the temperature of the car had dropped sufficiently, a firefighter was able to cut off the power to the battery. "The fight against the fire - which could only be carried out under severe respiratory protection - was difficult because the fire reignited several times," said the Landeck fire department.

In fact, the batteries can remain incandescent and trigger fires hours after the intervention of firefighters. Tesla therefore advises to check, during 48 hours, with a thermal imaging camera the temperature of the battery.

FlixBus launches its first long distance electric coaches

Boursorama with AFP the 12 / 03 / 2018

From the Easter holidays, FlixBus and its partner BE Green will put in service autonomous electric coaches between Paris and Amiens.

FlixBus and BE Green assure it: it's a world first. The two partners will bus about sixty people at a time between Paris and Amiens, 150 km, without consuming a single drop of diesel.

The operator BE green, specialist in electric transport in France, bought two buses from the Chinese manufacturer Yutong, which will be used by FlixBus on a daily basis from the Easter holidays in mid-April. So not "Made in France"? "For the moment, French manufacturers, and even European ones, prefer to concentrate on urban electric buses, explains to Parisian Patrick Mignucci, CEO of the transporter Autocars Dominique and founder of its subsidiary BE Green. They have the technical capacities but the market. is not yet attractive enough. "

China already uses electric coaches over long distances, "but on targeted services, excursions, transfers," Mignucci told AFP. "Structured on a regular daily basis as FlixBus operates today, I think this is really a first," he insists.

SUSTAINABLE 100% ELECTRIC AUTOCARS

Electric coaches cost about 400.000 euros for the purchase, 30% more expensive than conventional thermal energy vehicles (petrol or diesel), but the maintenance costs are reduced, with full electricity at 15 euros against 70 for the diesel equivalent. Customers should also find their account. The average ticket price should be around 12 euros for one way.

These electric buses will go as fast as the thermal vehicles, and recharging batteries, which will take four hours, will be at the ends of the line, according to RTL. Small flat for users: to leave room for six batteries that provide autonomy 200 kilometers it was necessary to sacrifice toilets.

The so-called "100% electric" coaches do not pollute during journeys, but their carbon footprint, from the manufacture of the batteries to the consumption of electricity, is far from zero. "For equal production of dirty energy, you have at least one advantage, which is that you remove NOx (nitrogen oxides which participate in the formation of fine particles) and CO2 from the atmosphere", explains Patrick Mignucci .

A CLIN OF EYE TO MACRON

Why Amiens? "It's a nice nod to our president to link the capital with his birthplace", laughs Yvan Lefranc-Morin, CEO of FlixBus France, one of the operators who had invested in the niche of " cars Macron ", following the law to liberalize the sector when Emmanuel Macron was Minister of the Economy (2015).

Mr. Lefranc-Morin is also counting on the public authorities to develop electrical network infrastructures, which "cannot be 100% the responsibility of the operator."

FlixBus France considers the Paris-Amiens line as a pilot project, destined to be duplicated. A Paris-Rouen line could soon see the light of day.

RATP launches electrical conversion project for its bus depots

AFP released the 14 March 2018

The RATP launched Wednesday with Enedis two-thirds of its bus depots, to connect them to the public electricity distribution network.

The Parisian transport authority and the electricity distributor have signed an agreement, for a period of two years, which will make it possible to "define optimal connection methods for bus centers" and to "work on the development of transport solutions. recharge, "according to a joint statement.

The RATP, which has 4 buses, has embarked on "a pioneering adventure in the energy transition", declared its CEO, Catherine Guillouard, during the signing at the Belliard depot in the north of Paris. The RATP, which announced at the end of January a massive call for tenders for the purchase of electric buses, wants to "green" its fleet by 700 with electric buses, biogas and diesel / electric hybrids. As a result, it will convert two thirds of its deposits (ie 2025) to electric and one third (17) to gas.

“Now, the deposits must follow,” said the president of the Ile-de-France region Valérie Pécresse, who also chairs Ile-de-France Mobilités (ex-Stif). To go quickly, "we are going to work hand in hand to try to defeat the French scourge of bureaucracy," she added. This "rapid growth needs to be anticipated", declared the chairman of the management board of Enedis, Philippe Monloubou.

The RATP has opted for nightly recharging of the buses, "in order to adapt as well as possible to the electricity network, particularly outside peak hours", specify the RATP and Enedis in a press release. Enedis must eventually provide each bus center with a power of around 10 megawatts (MW).

The RATP already operates from 2016 a 100% electric line, the line 341 (between Charles-de-Gaulle Etoile and Porte de Clignancourt through the small crown) whose 23 buses are reloaded at the Belliard center, like the Montmartrobus. Other electric buses are tested, especially on the 115 and 126 lines.

First delivery for Tesla's electric trucks
Two semi filled with batteries

Published 08 / 03 / 18

For the first time, final models of Tesla's electric truck are loaded from the company's Gigafactory in Nevada to deliver batteries to Fremont, California, where the car manufacturing plant is located of the brand.

Tesla's boss, Elon Musk, posted on Instagram yesterday the photo of two Tesla electric trucks parked in front of Gigafactory, Nevada. Filled with batteries, they were preparing to leave to make the first delivery officially made with one of these semi-trailers of a new kind. Their mission is to rally Fremont, California, to supply Tesla's car manufacturing plant with components.

Image

This is an important milestone for Tesla's electric trucks, introduced last November, which are expected to be commercialized next year. Trucks on which several large groups have already positioned themselves, such as the supermarket brand Walmart, but also the logistics specialist DHL, or Pepsi who ordered 100. Nevertheless, Elon Musk has never hidden that the first copies of these Tesla Semi will be used internally. Moreover, if Musk and Tesla communicate on this delivery as the first of its kind, more discreet prototypes of electric trucks designed by Tesla were already making deliveries between Nevada and California.
A good performance test

As recalled by our colleagues at ArsTechnica, Tesla promised that its trucks would offer an autonomy of 800 kilometers and a maximum loading weight of 36 tons. Elon Musk also said they could maintain a speed of 105 km / h up a slope of 5%. The road that separates the Gigafactory from the Tesla plant is interesting in this context to test the performance of the trucks, the Interstate 80 they must borrow passing through the Donner Pass to nearly 2 200 meters altitude. It is nevertheless on the way back that they will have to collect the most elevation gain, while they are a priori empty and therefore lighter. The road between the two locations is 390 kilometers, or 780 round trip kilometers. Tesla's trucks should theoretically be able to go back and forth without having to recharge their batteries.

Especially since on the go, they can consume the electricity of the batteries they carry : Mrgreen:

Tesla on the verge of bankruptcy

for several days, many articles are devoted to the subject. I found this post that I find very interesting
https://energieetenvironnement.com/2018 ... ssion=true
What to remember from the Tesla adventure?

Tesla's misfortune has been to combine the best car salesman in the world with the worst manufacturer. Musk makes you dream, but it's too whimsical to manage car production, which requires very meticulous attention to detail.

Some would say that he had the merit of giving his nobility to the electric car. In fact, he was selling well before he started. His contribution was to promote a particular configuration, the long-range electric car. But the record of the experiment remains uncertain. If Tesla proved that we could technically build such a car, it has not yet proven that the adventure could be profitable and reach the general public. The long-life electric car remains expensive and its impact on electricity distribution networks remains uncertain.

It remains to be seen what will be the future of Elon Musk himself. Adventures like Hyperloop and The Boring Company are distant and risky. Can he finance them after discrediting with Tesla? It will probably remain SpaceX, which seems to be a solid company. But he will probably have to limit his ambitions. Unless the dream salesman manages once more to seduce the crowds?

At the base of this rumor, there is a letter written by John Thompson, Director of Investments at Vilas Capital Management.
Without questioning the analysis of John Thompson, you should know that his investment fund played the action Tesla down, any publication that can bring down the action makes him earn a lot of dollars :|

Still, the situation is difficult for Tesla and their survival is suspended from the mass production of the Model 3 ... which until now does not reach the expected objectives (the factory releases 2000 cars per week while had to leave 5000 since late 2017), but production is steadily increasing ...

the pace of 2000 cars to the week just showed that in a week the factory to correct its automation problem. Previously she was able to produce only a few vehicles a week. actually less 2000 since launch.
The automatism level of the chains is unique, 100% robotic what the big manufacturers like toyota or WV refused to do because impossibility to solve some details of precision without stopping the profitability, it is better sometimes some worker in more than a computer engineer coder on qualified ....
