Fondation Chirac, inauguration with great pomp

by Christophe » 09/06/08, 14:04

The chirac foundation has just been inaugurated, here is a c / c of the news that I have just written, inauguration of the chirac foundation

Jacques Chirac today inaugurated at the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris and in front of international personalities his own foundation, the "Fondation ... Chirac" (quite simply).

The goals of this foundation are to promote peace, dialogue of cultures and sustainable development.

"The responsibilities of a statesman do not end with his public mandates. Beyond political commitment, there remains the commitment of man, the meaning of his struggles, what he believes in", said declared the former French president.

"The food crisis or the shaking of world finances remind us that our world is facing a combination of unprecedented perils", warned Jacques Chirac. "We must proceed (...) to a revolution in our lifestyles, we must do it now. Tomorrow, it will be too late".

These sentences are strangely reminiscent of the famous speech of 2002, "The house is burning but we look elsewhere" but little followed by concrete facts.

The first actions of the Fondation Chirac will seek to promote access to medicines, access to water, the fight against deforestation and to protect endangered languages and cultures.

A "surprise" guest, Nicolas Sarkozy, in a hurry and who may not have appreciated not being officially invited?

Anyway, apart from any political controversy, we welcome the initiative of the former French President and look forward to action in practice.

The econologie.com site and its forums could be a source of inspiration for solutions for this foundation to which we wish much success and media coverage.

The debate is open, but please, NO POLICY POLEMIQUE, we will judge on the facts and actions that is all.

We hear about it again:

The Chirac Foundation pushes for certification of the Congo Basin forests

PARIS - The support of the Chirac Foundation has enabled the certification of 750.000 hectares of forest in the Congo Basin, according to a progress report on the partnership between this foundation and The Forest Trust (TFT) presented on Monday in Paris.

For the past year, the Chirac Foundation has supported the certification of African forests for sustainable harvesting, in partnership with TFT, an international non-profit organization founded in 1999 with the aim of preserving tropical forests and combating global warming.

This partnership started with the extension of FSC certification (an international eco-label for sustainable forest exploitation, editor's note) in the Congo Basin, training foresters in sustainable forest exploitation thanks to the center of social excellence de Brazzaville and the involvement of the natives in the surveillance of their massifs.

About 5 million hectares of tropical forests were certified FSC in the Congo Basin against 40.000 hectares only in 2004, says the foundation.

For 2009 and 2010, the two organizations aim to change the minds of buyers and consumers to encourage purchases of eco-certified wood, said former president Jacques Chirac and TFT executive director Scott Poynton, when presenting this milestone.

"The disorderly destruction of forests is one of the great injustices of our time. They are peoples who are being crushed and expelled, the peoples of the forest, weak, without borders and without a State", underlined Jacques. Chirac.

Secretary of State for Ecology Chantal Jouanno warned against the impact of deforestation on the diversity of living things: "The first of the ecological crises we are going to experience will probably be that of biodiversity, even before that of the climate. ", she estimated.

The "new" site: http://www.fondationjacqueschirac.fr/

If you only had to remember a speech by Chirac:

40k seen in 7 years on the INA Youtube channel ... I think everything is said about the interest of people in this speech, the slightest little known youteuber (slang Teub root) does better in a few dozen minutes...

But it has its dedicated Wiki page: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notre_mai ... s_ailleurs
