According to the website of the daily Vancouver Sun, another 300 people are standing by to evacuate their homes.

At least nine homes were burned down, a highway was cut and 6 homes were evacuated, but no casualties were reported, British Columbia firefighting services said. Hello

Forest fires in Canada are part of everyday life
He doesn't even tell the new ones anymore
There is at the height of the season from 100 to 150 households in activities a 30 that cannot be controlled
the forest being more than 1000km to the north higher it is the tundra
Just in Quebec there are more than 50 small planes on the Sopfeu (GRONDAIR) patrol to detect the beginnings of an outbreak before sending the CL 415
most fires are the origin of lightning, often in areas where there is no access other than by seaplane
Certain uncontrollable fires stop on their own.
When you fly in these high regions sometimes the sky is hazy and you smell the scent of burnt wood
100 years ago the fires devastated large parts of the forest without our knowing it, it was part of the life cycle of the forests after the deciduous, the coniferous, Since the arrival of the paper companies with their great technical means of felling, he no longer monitors their wood harvest.

When I see that he wants to ban heating with wood because it pollutes .. what does that make a 150 fires in activity?

Fires ravage British Columbia

Article published on 21/07/2009 Last update on 21/07/2009 at 06:19 UT
Firefighters are still trying to control major forest fires in the province of British Columbia (west). The fires that broke out this weekend have so far forced the evacuation of more than 10 residents and destroyed a dozen buildings. On Monday, emergency services had managed to control half of the largest outbreak while two others remained unchecked.

With our correspondent in Toronto, Anouk Desgroseilliers

The small town of Kelowna in southern British Columbia has declared a state of emergency. The thousands of evacuees have found refuge with relatives, in makeshift accommodation centers or in hotels in the region. Thousands of other residents are on high alert, ready to leave their homes in the event of a threat.

In addition to the progression of the flames, the authorities are monitoring the deteriorating air quality. Public health officials have already indicated that the most vulnerable people are at risk of being affected by high dust levels.

According to the authorities, the blazes were of human origin but they would probably have been triggered accidentally given the weather conditions of the last few days. And the weather does not seem to want to help the firefighters since it is expected that the high temperatures and winds will continue for some time.

In 2003, other forest fires destroyed 200 houses in the same region. Some fear that the current fires, even though they affect a much smaller area, i.e. around 10 square kilometers, will be even more devastating since they affect a more densely populated area.

Over 500 wildfires in western Canada

More than five hundred forest fires are currently ravaging British Columbia, affected by a great drought and a wave of heat and thunderstorms, the Prime Minister of this western Canadian province, Gordon Campbell, said on Friday.

If the fire, ignited by lightning Thursday evening on a mountain near the ski resort of Whistler, 120 km from Vancouver, has finally proved safe for the facilities of the 2010 Winter Olympics, Mr. Campbell said his province "faces the greatest risk of forest fires in living memory". (BVH)

Canada / fires: thousands of evacuations

Several thousand people were forced to leave their homes today, threatened by forest fires that firefighters are still struggling to control due to the heat and drought in British Columbia (west).
The situation is worsened by gusts of wind and lightning strikes which ignite new homes.

Emergency services have ordered the evacuation of most of the 3.000 residents of Lillooet, one of British Columbia's most threatened communities, the provincial forestry ministry said. Several Native American communities in the region were also evacuated Monday due to intensified fires. The flames are currently one kilometer from this ancient market town, some two hundred kilometers northeast of Vancouver, the metropolis of western Canada.

In the Okanagan Central district, 2.500 people had to be evacuated for the second time in a row on Monday, with firefighters losing ground to a fire that has been raging for two weeks on the slopes of the nearby Terrace Mountain. In this region nearly twenty thousand people have been evacuated or ordered to prepare for it in recent weeks. According to firefighters, the number of wildfires in western Canada is currently between 500 and 700.

In Provence too there are often fires but overall in France, and in Provence also the forest is gaining ground.
With us, fires often occur around large cities or after a soldier gives a stupid order (shoot tracer bullets in the middle of summer) and areas rather become scrubland after having burned several times.
In this kind of thing, don't forget the journalists who have to fill out their diaries.

As André says, fire can be beneficial for certain species. I keep an extraordinary memory of a stroll in the spring one year after a fire in the creeks of Marseille which had allowed the blossoming of heaps of flowers which were completely smothered by the trees.

For me, the dramatic fires are those that happen in the Amazon or in New Guinea
