For three years, this Chaponois has devoted his free time to the complete renovation of his house, giving pride of place to sustainable development

Some prefer to fly to a paradise island and its sandy beaches for the holidays.

At 47, Thierry Baruch has opted for another journey, started three years ago: the restoration of a two-story building located in Chaponost. And this, using eco-friendly materials and techniques.

Capable of nocturnes - the day begins at 8 am and ends the next day around 2 am - this primary school director intends to devote his summer to this eternal site ... to which he already dedicates Wednesdays and weekends! "I admit that I find it hard to leave it," he confides, smirking.

Thierry did not however predestine himself to handle the trowel on his return from Mexico, where he stayed four years for a cultural association. "I was immediately seduced by this house," he recalls. Perfectly habitable, he and his family could have put their suitcases there.

But he will get caught up in the renovation game. Then begins the Great Work. Floors, ceilings, walls, plumbing: everything is gutted to shape a house of adobe. A design that is not revolutionary in his eyes: “Two billion people live in houses built from the ground. I'm not inventing anything, I'm just rediscovering what has existed for millennia, ”he believes.

Thus, Thierry aspires to a thrifty and ecological project. Any natural material recovered finds its place. Evidenced by the heated walls for which he invokes wood shavings, mineral soil from the garden and hydraulic lime. Witness the bathroom for which he uses glass tiles, vermiculite and stone fragments.

This follower of experimentation recognizes having been a tourist in the world of DIY. Over the course of the meetings, he portrays his adventure. She seduces Fred, “an electrical specialist, who came sixty Wednesdays in a row”, Monique, “a Bible in masonry” or even Ali who trained her in plumbing.

The network he weaves allows him to sail without calling on professionals. Thierry evokes a journey based on exchange: “Everyone comes with their ideas, which enriches the site. "This even becomes participatory on weekends:" Free training and a meal against a helping hand. "

That of July 31 and August 1, aims to apply a lime plaster on the facade.

Thierry Barush has therefore not finished preferring the stone of the houses to the pebbles of the beach. Let him be on vacation. Or not.
