Ekopedia invites the sharing of environmental solutions

by jlh » 02/10/09, 14:43

The Ékopédia encyclopedia has just exceeded 2000 articles in French and invites citizens and organizations to share ecological solutions thanks to the great collaborative tool that is Ekopedia.org

Whether scientists, specialists, enthusiasts or citizens, the thousands of Ekopedia contributors share and collaborate with a common goal: to give everyone the means to take the necessary actions to create a better world.

Faced with the urgency of ecological problems, it is our moral duty to communicate the solutions applicable here and now. Constantly looking for new contributors, we invite citizens and organizations to participate in Ékopédia and circulate our call. There are many ways to contribute (writing, grammatical corrections, adding images, help for newcomers ...) and in addition it is very easy.

Our society must transform individualism and competition into social responsibility and collaboration. The thousands of articles, illustrations and photos from the Ékopédia project are freely copiable, distributable and transformable (as long as these freedoms are preserved). Thus, individuals, schools, organizations, etc. can freely benefit from this knowledge, improve it and reuse it to disseminate it in their own networks.

During the past 7 years, we have fulfilled our dream of creating a knowledge base to become more autonomous and respectful of our environment. Today, we dream that Ékopédia will become a place of collaboration for non-profit organizations wishing to share ecological solutions with as many people as possible.

Ékopédia was created in 2002, it now exists in 7 languages and its visitors and contributors come from more than 200 countries. The information is structured around 12 themes and there are also solutions and alternatives relating to birth, food, transport, housing, etc. Articles range from simple toothpaste recipes to making a phyto-purification system. For a public interest project such as Ekopedia, it is essential to think first about the benefits of the community, the information is therefore free and without advertising. With several hundred thousand visits each month, Ékopédia has become one of the most visited French-language websites in the field of ecology.

For more information you can visit http://www.ekopedia.org et http://fr.ekopedia.org

You can help us in particular by circulating this call. You can find it here: http://bit.ly/1Ehsxh

Sincerely,
Jean-Luc
