Engine by capillarity. It's possible?

Innovations, ideas or patents for sustainable development. Decrease in energy consumption, reduction of pollution, improvement of yields or processes ... Myths or reality about inventions of the past or the future: the inventions of Tesla, Newman, Perendev, Galey, Bearden, cold fusion ...

Uh what do you mean by a straw?

For me a straw is a hollow plastoc tube so nothing rises without suction ...

Try it out, put on your glasses and you will see that inside the straw,
the water is not exactly at the same height as around !! : Shock:

motor capillarity

by tigrou_838 » 23/02/10, 16:09

hello, about the capillarity, you can try,

take a glass, fill it with water preferably rainwater, then you put in a wick in the style of wicks of oil lamps, and you mount the wick as high as possible, it will take you time with you , and hold for a long time, it will go up very slowly.

how far it will go up, I don't know, but I'm waiting for your test response, depending on the thickness of the wick.

if you manage to make two or three drops rise to more than ten centimeters in 1 hour, it will not be bad to see further.

Good without laughing, in this case I do not think that it is of the capillarity but rather a phenomenon of surface tension ... but the capillarity is linked to the surface tension ...

Ah no you are right it is a phenomenon of capilarity: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capillarit%C3%A9

It is best known for the effect of a liquid with high surface tension rising against gravity in a very thin tube, called a capillary tube.

What are the hair materials apart from the sugar (not too durable :D)?

Well, after having seen the 2 videos above, I think that with nanotechnology, the capillary motor is quite possible ...

In all cases it will have to remain small ... or will be a macroscopic assembly of several microscopic "units" : Idea:

: Oops: it's corrected thanks reymundo!

I advise everyone to watch these 2 videos:

http://www.espci.fr/esp/CONF/2009/C09_0 ... 009_v1.htm
http://www.espci.fr/esp/CONF/2009/C09_0 ... 009_v2.htm

They are really interesting ... depending on your scientific culture you will learn more or less ...

Ah for those who do not know, ESPCI: Higher School of Industrial Physics and Chemistry (Paris)

It is a school accessible by competition after 2 years of preparatory classes for grandes écoles (CPGE)

They are having fun. Huh? :D
