Re: Solar tower with electricity generation (Mega Project)
The Chinese are starting to be interested in the concept of solar convection towers with here a small 27,5MW power station built in Jinshawan.

The project's scope of work consists of 27.5 MW solar power plant located at Jinshawan, Wuhai city, Inner Mongolia, China.
A water-tower-like chimney is eye catching in the desert desolate, where under the chimney is a glass-made house sitting above the ground.
This is a solar chimney plant system in Jinshawan, Wuhai city of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, which is the country's first power plant that combines solar power and wind power generation.
The 200-kilowatt power generation unit can supply 400,000 kWh of electricity per year, saving the equivalent of 100 tons of coal and 900 tons of water, compared with thermal power generation.
It will consist of three phases covering a combined area of 277 hectares and its total generation capacity will reach 27.5 MW

Re: Solar tower with electricity generation (Mega Project)
I had already mentioned the project on another topic, but now the project is reality (construction 2013), it remains an interesting concept.

Must do this thing on a mountain in any case to minimize the cost of the tower drastically.
I have seen this at home, unfortunately there is a residential suburb below and lacks a bit of desert in fact it seems that the presence of sand is paramount.
