I will be a little more nuanced than Christophe about heat pumps.
These have a beneficial principle in that they allow to capture calories in an environment that is a priori too cold to heat. Electricity is a way to run the compressor, but it could be a natural mechanical source like a windmill or a watermill.
The coctail heat pump / thermal or nuclear power plant is much less glorious for the reasons mentioned by Christophe.
In addition, the ease of use of electricity and its apparent "cleanliness" suggests that CO2 emissions are zero. For nuclear power plants this is half true, but it is specific to France, and we never hear that these plants are factories that waste 3/4 of the heat produced, whereas it is an aspect not insignificant.
This leads me to believe that if one were to heat up with nuclear power, one could be satisfied with a thimble of uranium per household, and be quiet for the 100 next years. Everyone's micro-cogeneration electricity / heat, and the energy problems of homes are solved!
It is a caricature, but we must understand that the problems of electricity production that we will encounter in the coming years, we did everything possible to have them, for lack of knowing how to envisage a sustainable energy future.

The fact is that in 10 years, the price of photovoltaic solar panels has been divided by 5 see more ... therefore inevitably the resistive applications are more interesting than before ...

It is a very good idea to heat water with PV
I myself realized an installation since 8 months but with a single panel of 250 W; it is not possible to use a standard resistor but you have to change it, but it's easy
see my subject PV resistive and profitable
The advantage is the very good performance of the PV in winter and total absence of maintenance because zero electronic

Because in the vast majority of cases the electronics serves precisely to reduce or eliminate the maintenance: Brushless motors vs. coal engines, static relays vs. mechanical contactors, inductive proximity sensors vs. end of mechanical races, programmable automatons vs. cam programmers, etc.

If we continue the idea: could we consider a photovoltaic heating? A heating resistor in a MCP as a heat reserve for the night? As stated, PV in winter is more efficient.

Even though the PV for heating water is better than the tube thermal panel (cost / heat production ratio). It's not yet AMHA a good idea because it is a form of waste based on very noble energy (the noblest). On the other hand the idea of heating with a surplus by diversion in case of energy lost and good.
The PV associated with the PAC seems to be also a very good idea because a heat pump is only an electrical thermodynamic system that can solar calories lost in the colder environment with a very high efficiency system since it is the opposite of any other production machine (lose 75% heat to produce 25% electricity)
for me also solar thermal has its role to play because it is very simple to store thermal in an inert mass so the combination of its components PV / heat and possibly PAC certainly solve the problem of the autonomy of a habitat.
Electronics will also be in the game ... with intelligent driving.
