Storing electricity in liquid form

by the middle » 26/07/08, 08:57

Hello,
Often a search for information leads to other interesting discoveries:
I do not think that the process has already been mentioned on econology.
(useful for storing electrical energy from wind, and others)

It is a research avenue, indeed. They are electrolytic accumulators, but with a continuous flow of electrolyte.

Otherwise, in France, we have STEP (pumped energy transfer station), see http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydro%C3%A9lectrique : Cheesy:

Rest assured, the EPR will save you, 2000 MW of constant production, which modulates its power by 5%, it can well absorb 100 MW peak of a hundred wind masts, with the waste that goes with it of course. :|

In Switzerland, hydraulics and WWTP are used "thoroughly", of course, the relief and rainfall are suitable.

Hello,

It's a big battery actually: http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/en/wads.jsp?I ... MPH&PAGE=1

see diagrams on page 28

thousands of cubic meters of acid, is that reasonable? to store clean energy in a "polluting" installation
lifetime?
recycling?
incidentally, return on investment?

It's true Cap, you shouldn't try to grow your salad on such tanks :D
The other solutions then?

: Arrow: I had, in the previous subject, alluded to an invention of Bordeaux researchers who proposed a rechargeable liquid electrolyte.

It would be great if we found the news ... :?:
