Mobile and mobile risks: a new call to danger

How to stay healthy and prevent risks and consequences on your health and public health. occupational disease, industrial risks (asbestos, air pollution, electromagnetic waves ...), company risk (workplace stress, overuse of drugs ...) and individual (tobacco, alcohol ...).

Mobile and mobile risks: a new call to danger

by Christophe » 15/06/08, 19:54

This time it’s not green people (so-called paranos) who say it but big media and scientists:

MOBILE TELEPHONY

Scientists warn of laptop dangers
NOUVELOBS.COM | 15.06.2008 | 18: 51

According to David Servan-Schreiber and about twenty scientists, the cell phone could promote "the appearance of cancers in the event of long-term exposure". They list ten recommendations to limit the risks and formally advise against the use of the cell phone for those under 12 years old.

Twenty international scientists launched, Sunday, June 15, an appeal against the health dangers of the mobile phone.
This call, which appeared in Le Journal du Dimanche, is coordinated by David Servan-Schreiber, professor of psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh and known for the success of his book "Cure" (2003). The signatories list ten main recommendations:

- do not allow children under 12 to use a mobile phone except in an emergency,
- keep the phone more than a meter from the body during communications using the speakerphone mode or a hands-free kit or a headset,
- avoid carrying a mobile phone as much as possible, even in standby,
- when carrying a mobile phone on your person, ensure that the "keyboard" side is directed towards the body,
- rather communicate by SMS, as this limits the duration of exposure and proximity to the device,
- stay more than a meter from a person on the phone and avoid using their mobile in the metro, train or bus, so as not to passively expose others,
- use the mobile phone only to establish contact or for short conversations,
- regularly change sides during a conversation and wait until the correspondent has picked up the receiver before placing the handset on the ear,
- avoid using the mobile phone when the signal strength is weak,
- choose a device with the lowest possible specific absorption rate.

Like asbestos and tobacco

According to the JDD, "scientists agree on two things: there is no formal proof of the harmfulness of the cell phone, but a risk exists that it promotes the appearance of cancer in the event of long-term exposure ".
"We are today in the same situation as fifty years ago for asbestos and tobacco. Either we do nothing, and we accept a risk, or we admit that there is a bundle of arguments worrying scientists ", explains Thierry Bouillet, oncologist at the Avicenne hospital in Bobigny and signatory of the appeal.
Among the other main signatories are Dr Bernard Asselain, head of the cancer biostatistics service at the Institut Curie, Pr Franco Berrino, director of the department of preventive and predictive medicine at the National Cancer Institute in Milan, Dr Thierry Bouillet, oncologist and director of the Institute of radiotherapy at the Avicenne hospital in Bobigny, Jacques Marilleau, engineer, former physicist at the Atomic Energy Commission and the CNRS in Orsay, or Joël de Rosnay, doctor of science.

Well, the info is well relayed this time (an indirect effect of the Popcorn video? :D):

a) Release:

Laptops: oncologists sound the alarm
F.Ta.

Are the 40 million French people - and 2 billion people in the world - using a mobile phone in danger? According to twenty cancer specialists, who launched an appeal yesterday in the Sunday Journal, it is urgent to adopt certain rules of caution in the use of mobiles. Led by the very media David Servan-Schreiber, professor of psychiatry and successful author, these doctors believe that the scientific vagueness surrounding the use of the portable should not prevent from reacting. “Today we are in the same situation as fifty years ago for asbestos and tobacco. Either we do nothing, and we accept the risk, or we admit that there is a bunch of worrying scientific arguments ", explains Thierry Bouillet, oncologist at the Avicennes hospital in Bobigny and signatory of the call.

For years studies have followed one another, but without delivering a definitive diagnosis. The scientific community is impatiently awaiting the conclusions, probably towards the end of the year, of Interphone, the first epidemiological study carried out since 1999 on a large scale in thirteen countries. Several of these countries, including France, have already published partial results, some of which are worrying, but Interphone managers frequently point out that only the final data will allow us to conclude whether or not the laptop is dangerous. Recently a Swedish study concluded that after ten years of using the mobile phone, the risk of developing a glioma, the most malignant form of brain cancer, was multiplied by 2,5.

In France, the Ministry of Health has, for the time being, described the risks as "low". The oncologists at the origin of the call launched yesterday recommend in particular to parents to prohibit children under the age of 12 years from using the mobile phone, to avoid having a telephone permanently with them, not to keep it close to your body at night, give preference to hands-free kit or send SMS, stay at least one meter from a person on the phone, limit use when the network is weak or in cars, trains, metro and buses.

b) West France:

Laptops: Doctors Call for Caution

They argue the precautionary principle. As long as it is not certain that the electromagnetic radiation from these phones has no effect.
Twenty scientists, mainly cancer specialists, call for caution on the use of mobile phones. "We are in the same situation as fifty years ago for asbestos and tobacco," explains Thierry Bouillet, oncologist at the Avicenne hospital in Bobigny and signatory of the appeal. Either we do nothing, and we accept a risk, or we admit that there is a bunch of disturbing scientific arguments. "

No proof

For the professor of psychiatry David Servan-Schreiber, at the origin of this text, it is "absolutely" necessary to take precautions. "Even without definitive proof, you have to explain to people that cell phone use is probably not harmless and that there are proven ways to protect yourself. "

Published in the Sunday newspaper yesterday, this call sets out a dozen simple rules to reduce the risks associated with exposure to electromagnetic fields (1). Example: prohibit the use of mobile phones by children under 12, except in an emergency; "Avoid carrying a telephone on you, even in standby"; "Communicate by SMS rather than by telephone".

One can imagine that the powerful mobile operators will soon be shouting. For the Ministry of Health, there is no scientific evidence today to demonstrate that the use of mobile phones poses "a significant risk" to health, whether for adults or for children.

However, several recent studies have highlighted the possibility of a “low” risk of health effects linked to intensive and long-term use of a mobile. A large-scale international study, conducted in thirteen countries, under the aegis of the World Health Organization (WHO), is under way. Only partial results have been published to date.

C) Challenges, blog

Mobile phone: David Servan-Schreiber's fair plea

Of course, David Servan-Schreiber is not an expert in cell phones, he is a trader, above all. The professor of psychiatry has become a professional in anti-stress, anti-depression, anti-cancer remedies ... a lot of mirage behind his well-honed marketing discourse. But his call for vigilance in the use of laptops seems to me to be very common sense.

As much as the controversy over the use of WiFi, born of the discomfort of Parisian librarians, seemed to me far-fetched, so much the doubts on the mobile seem to me to be well founded. The advice that David Servan-Schreiber gives on his site seems to me judicious. Maintain, for a prolonged period, on one's skull or in a jacket pocket, a few millimeters from the skin, a device emitting waves and causing heating ... Of course, caution is necessary.

Without delving into paranoia, we can reasonably say that all the studies carried out on the effects of mobile have not been carried out over a sufficiently long period for us to be able to avoid their inherent risks. Around the world, independent teams of researchers are continuing these tests and accumulating data. I had the opportunity to speak with some of them during a recent survey published in Challenges. And the truth, frustrating but obvious, today is that you don't know anything.

We expect to see soon "independent" studies (funded by operators or manufacturers of mobile phones) saying exactly the opposite. : Evil:

Yes, have already done it will suffice to dust off his false studies ...
It's like GMOs anyway: if you don't say what's good for "their" economy (or their commercial interests) "they" will destroy you ... : Evil:

they are going to take us out of the pub like in the 50s for the cigarette.

Well you laugh but there are electromagnetic wave therapies ...
The Russians were specialists in the matter some time ago ...

There are also microwave weapons developed by the USA (use: war or riots)

I want in therapeutic and controlled form, but the with the gsm, microwaves, etc ... we take it full face without control.

the problem now is that even if it is shown to be harmful to health, the use of the laptop is already well established in populations, people will surely no longer know how to do without it.

when will the portable and non-portable areas in public places :D

Thank you Christophe for these links.

Pout...

I noticed in my case that after 10 min of discussion, my ear is very hot. : Cheesy:

It's funny you say, but it shows that the radiation heats up. Nothing more logical to that because these are the 900 MHz frequencies, and especially 1800 MHz.

You should know that the best frequency for heating water is that of the microwave at 2400 Mhz, or even that of Wifi. The ear is composed of 75% water, CQFD.

Added to this is the thermal conduction from the battery to the ear.

There you go ... that said, I only get moderately into paranoia and the precautionary principle.

People who put their backs and backs bare all summer on the beaches are 100 times more likely to get skin cancer than brain cancer with their cellphones.

And I think that using less than an hour a day at regular intervals poses no risk for an adult, because the warming remains local and penetrates very little the cortex.

For small children, on the other hand, I would proscribe the use because the interest of telephoning for them is nil and that it is better to leave their small developing neurons alone.

Nevertheless, the temperature rises are very weak ... below a little stammering from the CNRS
http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=16726256

A sustained sports effort increases the temperature all over the body even more.

A case to follow anyway. : Idea:
