For the A380 the figure for 100 km is rather:
- consumption: 2000 liters / 100 km (source Wikipedia)
- payload 102 tons
So 2000 * 3 (kg CO2 / liter of kerosene) / 102 -> 59 kg of CO2 / tonne useful per 100 km.

On the consumption side, the figures seem consistent:
2000 liters at 100 on 15200 km with kerosene at 0,8 kg / liter, it gives 2000 * 15200 / 100 * 0,8 = 240 tons. The A380 is given for 258 max tons of kerosene on takeoff.

Compared to the car, it is the distance that creates the problem because for a consumption per passenger 2,9 liters to 100 (source Wikipedia), unless 3 in the car, it consumes less air.

Hello

It is taken from an article in Science & Avenir, I tried to find the data on the WWF site, but without success

Science et Avenir obviously did not check the figures before publication ... it's too bad for such a newspaper ...

Ah finally, the World also takes stock of this intox: https://www.lemonde.fr/les-decodeurs/ar ... 55770.html

Does a cargo ship pollute as much as any French car?

Numerous figures are circulating on the emissions generated by sea freight compared to cars. What is it exactly? What pollution are we talking about?

With the November 17 protest against rising fuel prices, the arguments are coming from all sides and the debate is sometimes broadening to broader issues like the "real" ones responsible for pollution. Several readers question us about the emissions generated by sea freight, compared to those due to cars. So we can read on social networks that fifteen - but we can read also twenty, sixty, etc. - Large ships would pollute more than all cars on the planet.

The extreme right, who took hold of the subject, was quick to draw figures. Marine Le Pen thus affirmed the 6 November that "a cargo ship of maritime freight represents, in terms of fine particles, the equivalent of the entirety of the French cars".

(...)

I just replied directly to this introx relayed by Marine Lepen on twitter:

Sorry but that's not intox.
The analysis on which this statement is based is accurate, but it depends on the technology and type of fuel used by the boats.

The world sums it up:
Freight cargo ship does not represent the equivalent of the entire French car fleet

To note two lines in front:
On the other hand, the pollution of a single cargo ship is equivalent to about 50 million cars in cases where the sulfur content is still 3,5%, Tolerated pollution in increasingly limited areas and will disappear within two years.

It's a question of interpretation on a case-by-case basis.

Very easy: use the "attachments" function below the message writing window ...
