The hunters, I have some in my family, they are useful. Every month they gas about 500 abandoned cats whose shelters in the department no longer know what to do.
In France, we have to gas in the 300000 abandoned cats per year.

The cats are locked in a burlap bag, the bag is put in a waterproof box then the tap of the gas bottle is opened.
To do this useful work, the federations of hunters in France receive subsidies.
The elimination of stray cats costs the French taxpayer several millions of euros each year.

??
The domestic cat does not come under hunting legislation, but rules relating to the wandering of domestic animals, the responsibility of the mayors in their commune. Hunters have neither the right to shoot domestic cats, nor the right to kill them, nor the right to capture them. Killing them constitutes a 5th class offense. The fact of seriously abusing them is punishable by 2 years' imprisonment and a fine of € 30. http://www.oncfs.gouv.fr/Destruction-an ... ques-ar587

We should not say "kill", we should say "euthanize" because it is a more appropriate verb in our world of hypocrites. In France, it is perfectly legal.

Euthanasia of cats in gas chambers is a worldwide practice.

I did not find a source, it must be relatively secret. Do you need a prefectural authorization to practice it?

No doubt all these people are firmly determined to "save the planet" (sic), proof, they politely ask the government to do something (provided that it does not bother them and does not affect their standard of living, of course).

No, we don't shout it from the rooftops, it's better that way.

The euthanasia of stray cats complies with articles L.211-25 and L.211-26 of the rural code. The prefect designates those who are authorized to carry out euthanasia.

The gassing is much cheaper than the bite of the veterinarian. Let us not forget that it is the taxpayer who pays.

After euthanasia, the cats are sent to a rendering plant to be "treated".
