The Montpellier operator La Compagnie du Vent (Engie group) inaugurated this Friday 7 October 13,5 solar power plant megawatt-peak, Mounted on the storage areas of the logistics company Walon France (Charles André Group) in Rivesaltes in the Pyrénées-Orientales. Installed in June 2016, the plant includes 48 378 solar panels, distributed on 64 shade. The annual output of 18,5 million kilowatt hours is equivalent to the consumption of 7 700 people, which corresponds to the population of Rivesaltes. The solar power plant An investment of 17,3 million.

An original infrastructure

This project was awarded the 2013 CRE call for tenders, via three 4,5 MWc files. According to La Compagnie du Vent, it is original by the development of software for the management of smart grids and short-term prediction of solar production. A demonstrator of three photovoltaic shadows feeds a lithium-ion battery storage system, an electric vehicle, and site workshops.

The site of Rivesaltes is the second solar power plant in shades of parking operated by the Compagnie du Vent, after that of the airport of Montpellier. It is the first operator in the Pyrenees-Orientales and the fourth in Occitania. Today, the company 150 employees operates 10 solar photovoltaic (88 megawatts) and prepares the construction of 9 projects (88 megawatts).

An investment of 17,3 M €.
Production of 18500 MWh x 40 € / MWh (average market price in France excluding peak hours) = 740 000 €.
Let a return time of 17,3 / 0.74 = 23 years, for an uncontrollable production.
There is better investment.

The best is to sell the kWh to the English at the rate EPR:
A production of 18500 MWh x 110 € / MWh (Hinkley Point EPR price) = 2 035 000 €.
Let a return time of 17,3 / 2,035 = 8,5 years, without additional fuel management cost.
Not bad as an investment.

A solar park at ArcelorMittal

the 02 / 11 / 2017

The commissioning of a photovoltaic park on ArcelorMittal land in Fos-sur-Mer (Bouches-du-Rhône) is a first in Europe. The steelmaker has already invested 60 million euros in the environment. But if it has made available 15 1 600 hectares of its site to install the La Fossette solar park, it is this time in a perspective of optimization of land.
Equipped with more than 45 000 photovoltaic panels, the park has a capacity 12 megawatts-crest, or the production required for the annual electricity consumption of 7 400 inhabitants - half of the population of Fos-sur-Mer. The arrival of renewable energies is a good image operation for ArcelorMittal and its partners. At this industrial site, Air Liquide produces oxygen that enters the ArcelorMittal steel manufacturing process and Ecocem produces an ecological cement from a by-product of the steelmaker's blast furnaces. But these beginnings of circular economy stop there for the moment.

The best would have been that Arcelor-Mittal buys this production directly under a contract (PPA or Power Purchase Agreement) as do a number of majors of the Internet.

Well, Arcelor-Mittal is not Google in terms of margins, and French electricity purchase rates remain visibly attractive ....

It will not last forever from the point of view of the tariffs, at least I wish it.

Like Microsoft with wind power in the Netherlands, this recent news:

Microsoft signs one of the largest wind energy deals in the Netherlands with Vattenfall

November 2, 2017 evwind

Microsoft Corp. has announced its second European wind project in the Netherlands with Vattenfall, one of Europe's largest electricity and heat retailers and producers. Microsoft will purchase 100 percent of the wind energy generated from a repowered and expanded wind farm that is adjacent to its local data center operations in the Netherlands. The 180-megawatt wind farm will be built and operated by Nuon, part of Vattenfall in the Wieringermeer Polder, near Amsterdam.

Vattenfall will begin with the expansion of 2018, and expects it to be operational effective 2019. Once completed, the Wieringermeer wind farm will be one of the largest onshore wind farms in the Netherlands, almost three times bigger than the Princess Alexia wind farm inaugurated in 2013.

"We are very happy and supportive to Microsoft's transition to using fossil-free energy in its datacenter operations," said Magnus Hall, president and CEO of Vattenfall. "This deal is completely in line with our strategy to help our customers in the future."

This wind farm will be located near Microsoft's Netherlands datacenter operations that serves as a regional hub to deliver Microsoft Cloud services to customers across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, as well as global customers. With the latest expansion completed in 2015, the data center is a technologically advanced facility built to reduce water, power and energy use.

The proximity of the wind farm to Microsoft's datacenters in the Netherlands made it particularly attractive, as it will allow the energy generated from these turbines to directly power the data center with local, clean wind energy. Matching production and consumption of renewable energy so closely unlocks great transmission efficiencies.
.....................

This is Microsoft's second wind energy project in Europe, "said Christian Belady, General Manager, Microsoft Cloud Infrastructure and Operations, Microsoft. "Once completed, this project will bring Microsoft's total direct procurement into renewable energy projects to almost 800 megawatts. With these wind projects, we're making significant progress against the corporate clean energy commitments we set for ourselves in 2016. "

Haÿ-les-Roses hosts the largest photovoltaic plant on the roof of Île-de-France

PATRICK DESAVY Factory New the 14 / 12 / 2017

Eau de Paris has invested 2,5 million euros to build the largest photovoltaic power plant in Île-de-France on the roof of its Ha réservoir-les-Roses drinking water reservoir (Val-de-Marne).

Anne Hidalgo, mayor of Paris, inaugurated Thursday 14 December afternoon the largest photovoltaic rooftop in Ile-de-France located on the roof of the drinking water reservoir of Haÿ-les-Roses (Val- de-Marne). Eau de Paris has invested 2,5 million euros in this project. On this building belonging to Eau de Paris, the public company in charge of the production, transport and distribution of water in the capital, had 11 800 m² of solar panels installed, representing the surface area of nine swimming pools. Olympic. This plant will have an annual production of 1 600 Mwh which will be directly reinjected into the local network to cover the electricity needs of 500 homes (excluding heating and domestic hot water) from 2018.

On the occasion of this project, Eau de Paris has turned an obligation into an opportunity to contribute to the city's new energy climate plan adopted in November 2017 by the Paris Council. The public company had to redo the waterproofing of the green roof of this reservoir in order to ensure perfect sanitary protection of the 240 cubic meters of water contained in four compartments. "With 000 m² of roofing available, an exceptional surface in Île-de-France, and around 20 hours of sunshine per year, the Haÿ-les-Roses reservoir was perfectly suited to this type of installation ", indicates a press release from Eau de Paris.

Winner of a call for tenders from the Energy Regulatory Commission, Eau de Paris has invested 5 million euros in the operation. One half was used for roof repairs. The other half financed the installation of the panels, a cost fully amortized by the resale of electricity to Enedis, says, in essence, Eau de Paris.

The power is not indicated but considering the surface and the annual production it should be around 1.2 MW. A Regismu review?

THE LARGEST URBAN SOLAR POWER PLANT IN FRANCE WILL BE IN LORIENT

December 29 2017

Keroman, the former World War II submarine base in the port of Lorient, is in the midst of a revolution: the roof of one of the base's bunkers is soon to receive solar panels. But the project stands out for its unprecedented ambition: to build the largest urban solar power station in France. The work has already started and, despite several constraints related to the geography of the place, the project should be completed in time for an inauguration beginning 2019. With this very large solar farm, the city of Lorient also wants to prove that solar has a future in Brittany.

The budget to achieve this project is 3 million euros , at the expense of XSea and the three banks that have invested in the project. It is expected that electricity generated by the urban solar power plant will be resold, and the agglomeration community has even already obtained a commitment from the CRE for a guaranteed price over twenty years. Thanks to a relatively low connection cost, the urban solar power station in Lorient should be profitable quickly.

With a height of just over 20 meters, the building offers an ideal position and a good angle for sunshine. But the roof was in poor condition and it was first necessary to carry out work to ensure the waterproofness and stability of the roof before starting construction of the solar power station. To deploy the future photovoltaic panels, XSea decided to build a roof overhang. This steel and polycarbonate structure is particularly strong and will support the weight of the panels as well as the remote control technology that has been chosen by XSea to manage the solar power station. The structure will then host the 10 000 photovoltaic panels of the urban solar power plant. They will offer a power of 3,3 megawatts and will supply electricity to the equivalent of 10 000 homes in Lorient. Currently, the structure is almost complete and ready to accommodate the solar panels. As of February 2018, the installation of the connection cables will begin then the photovoltaic panels will be deployed on the structure. XSea has opted for SolarEdge solar panel technology because it can be controlled individually, which makes it easier to intervene in the event of a technical problem on a panel.

Specific constraints

Usually, solar power plants are built in places that are favorable to them and have relatively few constraints. One of the most complex aspects of the Lorient project is that it involves building an urban solar power station. Located at the edge of the water, the solar power plant will be particularly exposed to bad weather. Other danger for solar panels: gull droppings which can damage the photovoltaic cells. SolardEdge technology is supposed to be more resistant to this type of natural degradation, but to prevent any risk XSea has planned to have surveillance drones that will regularly check the status of the urban solar power station. The company also plans to use a robot specifically designed to clean the solar panels. Meanwhile, during the duration of the work, it is a nozzle named Java that has the task of fleeing the gulls and keeping them at a safe distance from the future urban solar power station.
