Hello everybody

I created this topic to describe GOLF PLUS GTE'85: perhaps the first Golf multifuel and hybrid

It is a prototype of Golf GTE modified SYCOMOREEN in collaboration with LR PERFORMANCE. The computer has been reprogrammed to run either on gasoline or E85 (mixed in any proportion) as automatic mapping. The electrical part of the vehicle is strictly unchanged.

What is it so funny?
In the field of industry and more generally research and development (R&D), a prototype is according to the definition of the OECD “an original model which has all the technical qualities and all the operating characteristics of a new product. (...) "1, but it is also sometimes an incomplete copy (not final) that may be a product (possibly logiciel2,3 type, or type" service "4) or a material object final.

The prototype embodies an evolution step of a project, often to prove or disprove the validity of one or more concept (s) involved in the project, before any commercial development.

For my part I do not understand the second column of the consumption table (E85) passing of 8 0.5 to l / 100?

Hello Dede,

Thank you for your question. The answer is simple: when one travels less than 50 km, power pack capacity is sufficient not to start the engine (or almost no). We drive in almost 100% electric, and fuel consumption is close to zero.

It is always better to maximize the power pack when available renewable electricity because the E85 includes a share of non-renewable fuel (15% of fossil fuel type SP95-SP98).

Ok so the first column is without electricity, the next two add up. In fact in "gasoline + electricity" mode the gasoline consumption would be even less than that displayed with ethanol ...?

Another "stupid" question: what is the 15% gasoline for? Is it to prevent the driver from drinking fuel ... :P ?

We probably get a better thermal efficiency with 100% ethanol and more compression.

Hello Dede,

yes we will get the maximum power in pure ethanol (E100) but hot engine. Cold starts are a bit harder to ethanol, which is why there is a small proportion of SP; even in winter, E85 is in fact E65 (35% gasoline + 65% ethanol by volume). For well-supplied gas stations, the ethanol proportion rises gradually to 85% in summer.

Some news...

After a courtesy visit on Monday 27 February 2017, here is the picture of consos to go (E85 fuel) to reach the MONTANS site from the region of Clermont Ferrand (very rolling highways + national roads)

With 6000 km traveled since the 21 / 12 / 2016 transformation, we were able to check with Mr JULIA in the electronic arcane of the Golf that everything works well. The distribution of the mileage is about 3500 in thermal propulsion and 2500 in electric. The vehicle's performance is impeccable in all configurations.

LR Performance has a unique know-how; Today it is the only preparer able to adapt the Golf GTE to the flexfuel carburation. I thank them for their hospitality and professionalism.

I found a study from the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft und Raumfahrt Which attempts to find the optimum capacity of a battery for a rechargeable hybrid vehicle, or an electric vehicle with extended range.

A little feedback on the use of the GTE85 + Golf thanks to the data recorded by the on-board computer

To locate things, we are at a little more 32 000 km since the purchase of the vehicle,

But the flexfuel modification was made from 24 000 km. This makes 8000 km that the vehicle rolls in modified version. On these 8000 km, about 4500 in electric and 3500 km in thermal. The vehicle tested in winter conditions.

Here are the 54h driving for the last 3000 km traveled, The fuel is only E85

On this real scenario
* The cost to 100 km is 8.7 kWh / 100km x 0.13 € / kwh + 2,7 L / 100km x 0.59 € / L = 2,72 € / 100km. These courses made in SP95 would have required about 6L / 100km for 8 € / 100 km, 3 times more expensive.

* With respect to CO2 emissions, assuming that the E85 emits 3 times less CO2 than the SP95, and with renewable electricity, we arrive at: 6L / 100km / (0.33 * 2,7L / 100km / 1.15) = 8 times less emissions CO2.

Lately, many small courses of the order of 60 km and less, here is info conso since the last full.

Same calculations with these last figures:
* The cost to 100 km is 10.5 kWh / 100km x 0.13 € / kwh + 1,5 L / 100km x 0.59 € / L = 2,25 € / 100km
* These courses made in SP95 would have required about 7L / 100km for 9.5 € / 100 km, 4 times more expensive.
Regarding CO2 emissions, assuming E85 emits 3 times less CO2 than SP95, and with renewable electricity, we arrive at: 7L / 100km / (0.33 * 1,5L / 100km / 1.15) = 16 times less emissions CO2.

In summary, in relation to my uses The GTE85 + costs 3 to 4 times less at 100 km, and emits 5 to 15 times less CO2 than an equivalent vehicle that would run on unleaded gasoline. An economic approach, therefore.

What can be done with 40 L ethanol in plug-in hybrid propulsion? Almost 2000 km! 8)

2,2L / 100 km x 0.55 € / L = 1.21 € / 100 km [petrol]
9.3 kWh / 100 km x 0.13 € kWh = 1.21 € / 100 km [electricity]

Total: 2,42 € / 100 km

Interesting about this (real) scenario, the E85 and electricity costs are equal.

Regarding CO2 emissions: reduction of an 10 factor, assuming that E85 emits 3 times less CO2 than SP95, and with renewable electricity, we arrive at: 6L / 100km / (0.33 * 2,2L / 100km / 1.15) = 9.5 times less CO2 emissions.

Financial economy realized on this full, compared to a use in SP95 to 1,4 € / L to 6L / 100km
1860 km x (1.4 € / W x 6L / 100km - 2.42 € / 100km) = 111,23 €
