Pesticides: Spreading has an impact even in houses within a radius of 1 km

PARIS - Pesticides, some of which are suspected of being carcinogenic, may have an impact within a radius of more than one kilometer around the spreading site and even contaminate carpets in homes, reveals Friday Generations Futures citing a US study .
Study of dust samples in California-based 89 carpets and carpets found agricultural pesticide residues used up to 1.250 meters around these residences during the previous 730 days, according to a published study Thursday by the journal Environmental Health Perspectives from the US National Institutes of Health.
So far, researchers have only found such residues within a radius of 750 m around dwellings.
In addition, the study showed that domestic or professional use of pesticides by the inhabitants of the houses tested had only a minor impact on the variability of the concentration of the pesticides found.
For Generations Futures, this study shows that pesticides are not only harmful for agricultural products, but also have an impact on the air that residents in neighboring homes breathe in fields and orchards where chemicals are used.
"These results show that it is absolutely necessary to keep the decree of September 12, 2006" which authorizes the spreading of these products only if the wind speed does not exceed force 3 (19 km / hour) on the scale de Beaufort with 13 degrees, underlines the non-governmental organization.
This decree is questioned, according to Générations Futures, by the National Federation of Fruit Producers, after the trial in January of three apple growers in Corrèze for spreading pesticides on their orchards in strong winds, a criminal trial that could make jurisprudence.
The decision was reserved at 10 March.
"We must at the same time keep this decree, unique and thin protection against contamination by agricultural pesticides available to residents of the cultivated areas, and revive the momentum of the Ecophyto 2018 plan which provides for a 50% reduction in pesticides in 10 years ", underlined the spokesperson of Générations Futures, François Veillerette.
