To see on ARTE the documentary "Carbonized" on the flaring of petroleum gas, 400 million tonnes (not m3) are eliminated every year by flaring! :

We burn with this wasted gas by making as much CO2 as France and England together, we learn, and the oil companies hide and lie about the extent of this waste, in Africa and Siberia.
Long and complete report.

it confirms that energy is not expensive enough!

when oil and gas become more expensive, it will become profitable to liquefy these gases

butane propane is easy to liquefy by simple compression but it is more complicated for methane ... which explains why we prefer to burn it

a new process is starting to be used to recover methane where there is no way to transport it: GTL: gas to liquid: conversion of methane into H2 and CO then fischer tropsh to make synthetic oil!
