Access Pb of 26 March 2006

You have no doubt noticed that the site was inaccessible yesterday in the afternoon.

Here is the reason:

Significant disruption to French websites on Sunday

A power outage affected, Sunday, March 26, the operation of a large Internet hosting center in the Paris suburbs, disrupting the operation of a large number of French sites.

Redbus Interhouse, which merged at the start of 2006 with TeleCity "to become the main provider of managed services in hosting centers" suffered power cuts during the day at its warehouse in Courbevoie. , indicates a person in charge of the company.

Redbus was unable to specify the extent of the outage, just saying that a "huge" number of websites had been disrupted during the day. Redbus Interhouse is one of the leaders in physical hosting of Internet sites in France, managing among others Sivit, Hiwit, Oxyd, Amen or OVH, server centers on which a considerable number of sites in France depend.

SEVERAL EDF CUTTINGS

"It is a large hosting provider, with cascading customers, and it is difficult to assess the number of customers affected", explains André Tanti, in charge of security issues at the Ministry of the Economy, finance and industry. The warehouse suffered "several EDF cuts during the day", and the "start-up times" of the generators disturbed customers, the company was told. Mr. Tanti confirmed that several power cuts had occurred.

"We identified an incident on a transformer in Courbevoie around 10:45 am Sunday, but the customers were restored within a period of time ranging from a few minutes to less than an hour," said a spokesperson for the EDF group. "We have not identified any other cuts," she added. Technical information was to be provided by Redbus on Monday morning, according to the company.

SECOND FAILURE IN LESS THAN A MONTH

Last month, Redbus, already suffered a series of major outages, Tuesday February 28 from 14 p.m., which were due, according to a spokesperson for the company, to "human error during a maintenance on inverters ". The 3 generators then took over, but one of the 3 then broke down, causing an overload and then stopping the supply of electricity. The company sent a letter to its customers on the evening of Sunday, referring the fault to EDF: "Less than a month after the general power cut suffered by our RedBus InterHouse datacentre, we suffered a new general electrical interruption today. totally inadmissible. ". Stéphane Duproz, Managing Director of Redbus Interhouse, confirmed that the first incident which occurred shortly before 11 a.m. was due to blackouts on the EDF network. Redbus emergency generators, however, would not have taken over, which led to the first shutdown of websites. The following two incidents at 14:30 p.m. and 17 p.m. are believed to be due to various attempts by Redbus and EDF to restore a correct supply of electricity to the entire datacenter, without however succeeding.
