by Christophe » 30/12/10, 14:06

The Abbey of St Remy in Rochefort which produces, in my opinion, the best beer in the world suffered a major fire last night, we could fear the worst ...

A major fire broke out on Wednesday around 18 p.m. in the church of the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Saint-Remy. Several firefighters intervened to fight the fire. There were no casualties but heavy material damage.

The firefighters immediately put in the great means, which saved the Abbey of Rochefort, said the mayor of the city, François Bellot.

The fire which started on Wednesday around 18 p.m. in the Saint-Remy abbey in Rochefort was contained at the time of 30 p.m. by the 19 men from the firefighters of Rochefort, Dinant, Beauraing and Marche.

The fire started from a generator set. A reserve containing furniture was first hit, then technical rooms housing a high-voltage cabin and the electrical box.

"However, the electrical installation was not damaged. The firefighters managed to stop the fire at the beer fermentation tanks, a place which was renovated 5 years ago and which is the nerve center of the abbey. "

A carpenter should soon be on site to consider possible repairs on the site.

The damaged part still dates from the 13th century, so certain architectural loss ...

Fortunately, the production and the brewery are safe and sound ... it is certain now: God exists! : Mrgreen:

The consequences of the fire on Wednesday evening on the production of Trappist at the Abbey of Rochefort will be only minimal. Wednesday's production had already been bottled at the time of the disaster. The 10.000 liters planned for Thursday will not be produced. The work will continue normally, just like the life of the monks.

The 15 monks returned to the abbey on Wednesday evening, after the last foci were extinguished. With the exception of the non-production on Thursday, there will be no disruption to the work of the 35 employees who work for the Saint-Remy de Rochefort Abbey, nor any economic consequences linked to production. The monks will spend this Thursday a normal day in their abbey. By mid-morning, experts from the Dinant prosecutor's office were present on site, as well as insurance experts. The affected premises were assigned to storage and technology. The electrical system was not affected by the fire. The biggest damage is to the roof and masonry of part of the building. About 1.200 square meters of roofing were destroyed. An architect came to see the damage on Wednesday evening. The site is not classified. (LEE)

Yes, God is great and merciful! Just like for the parishioners of this Flemish parish whose church completely collapsed "a few minutes after midnight mass". The 200 faithful present had all left. No injuries.

Yes, God is great and merciful!

Not every day

November 1, 1755 in Lisbon, all the faithful gathered in the cathedral for the celebration of All Saints. An earthquake occurs, the cathedral and part of the city are destroyed: 30 dead.

Save a tree, eat a beaver.
It is no use to succeed in life, what it takes is to miss his death.
